BRYAN OFF TO A FAST STARTAfter missing the 2013-14 season due to injury, Bryan is off to a hot start through two games. The Wenatchee, Wash., product is averaging 20 points a game and is 9-for-15 from long distance (60 percent). Overall, Bryan is shooting at a 65 percent clip, and is a challenge for opponents on both the offensive and defensive ends.
WELCOME BACK HOWARDHoward, the reigning California Collegiate Athletic Association scoring champion, made his first regular season appearance in Wednesday's win. The Chicago native averaged 18.8 points per game last season and pulled down 6.4 rebounds a game. Howard logged 17 minutes off the bench versus Bristol and scored 12 points, blocked two shots and came up with a pair of steals. The 6-6 forward also tied for the team lead with six rebounds.
COYOTES SUFFER SEASON-OPENING LOSSCal State San Bernardino, the reigning CCAA regular season champions, opened the 2014-15 season with a 92-60 loss to Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponent Azusa Pacific. Azusa Pacific went on a 14-2 run at the end of the first half to carry a 24-point, 54-30, advantage into the break. Three Coyotes scored 10 or more points in the loss and they were led by senior Gilbert Parga (15).
THE LAST TIME OUTHSU has lost its last four meetings with San Bernardino, including an 82-70 loss in their last meeting. Howard was the Jacks' leading scorer in the loss with 20 points, but the Green and Gold were unable to upset the then-No. 7 Coyotes. San Bernardino's Jordan Burris led all scorers with 29 points and was a perfect 5-for-5 from outside the arc. The Coyotes were aggressive on the defensive end and finished the game with 10 steals and six blocks.
PARGA LEADS THE COYOTES IN SCORINGA transfer from LIU Brooklyn, Parga is the Coyotes leading scorer so far this season. The Pico Rivera native played in 19 games last season with LIU Brooklyn and, despite injuries that kept him sidelined for much of the year, contributed seven games with double-digit scoring in his first eight appearances. Parga scored 18 points in the Coyotes exhibition victory against Westmont on Saturday, Nov. 15.
