REGIONALLY RANKED FOR FIRST TIME IN 24 YEARS

After a building season a year ago, Humboldt State volleyball is taking the next step this fall. The Lumberjacks earned their first NCAA Division II West Region ranking at No. 8 in more than two decades.

HSU received its last regional ranking distinction 24 years ago in October of the 1990 season. The Jacks were ranked fifth and missed the national playoffs by one spot.

HSU currently sits in eighth spot of the 10 ranked West Region teams, one of three California Collegiate Athletic Association ranked teams. The top eight West Region teams earn a berth in the 64-team NCAA Division II national field.

Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams hold four of the top five West Region spots including the Northwest Nazarene (21-2) at the top spot. Alaska Anchorage (19-4) is second with Western Washington (17-6) fourth and Central Washington (17-6) fifth.

Pac West Conference's BYU-Hawai'i (17-4) is third with Dixie State (16-7) ninth and Point Loma Nazarene (14-9) 10th.

The CCAA's top-rated teams are Sonoma State (16-5) sixth and Cal State San Bernardino (16-5) seventh with HSU (15-6) right behind both in eighth.
