)ARCATA — A Humboldt State split squad of about 20 track & field student-athletes will compete on Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational in Chico.
"We will be taking some throwers over to Chico and some single-event athletes," said HSU track & field head coach
Scott Pesch. "It will also be an opportunity to have those who have not participated in the last two meets to get some events in."
Most of the team will be getting some rest as the Invite kicks off HSU's spring break.
"The goal at the meet is get some individual PRs, (personal records)" Pesch said. "These are the meets that get you into larger meets down the road in April. It is also part of building up for the conference championships in May."
Sophomore
Marissa McCay, who won the high jump (5-4) last weekend at the Humboldt Invite, will be competing at Chico, fine-tuning in the events featured in the heptathlon.
"I need to focus on getting better in my events, technically," McCay said. "I want to get better. I want to try to hit some provisional marks for the national tournament."
McCay said her 5-4 high jump was a huge PR. "I was stuck at 5-2 for two years," she said.
"Our multi-eventers are a strong part of our team," Pesch said. "So are the throws, middle distances and men's hurdlers. They are very athletic."
