Women’s Soccer Earns Point Following Conference Draw

ARCATA, Calif. – With four matches remaining, the conference playoff picture is as cloudy as ever. Humboldt State women's soccer (7-5-2, 3-3-2) added a point on Sunday morning after playing 110 minutes of scoreless soccer against Cal State San Marcos (3-6-5, 3-4-3).

"San Marcos was very difficult to break down today and deserve a great deal of credit for earning a draw on the road," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "Points are difficult to come by in this conference. We have said that all year, and not losing all the points today was vital to our playoff picture."

The Lumberjacks needed to fend off 14 San Marcos shots through regulation and both overtime periods to earn their sixth shutout of the season, the third most in the California Collegiate Athletic Association this season. The Jacks took three shots, with one coming in overtime.

CCAA saves leader, Caitlin Plese, added eight more to her season total, becoming the first Humboldt goalkeeper to surpass the 100 saves mark this decade. Plese also moves into a tie for fifth place in the Green and Gold record books with her sixth shutout.

Starters Bridget Daley, Kylie Forbes, and Courtney Rebata recorded the HSU shots.

"It's no secret we wanted all three points," said Karver. "With four matches left we still control our own destiny, and that is important."

Humboldt State wore special black and pink uniforms on Sunday to help raise awareness for breast cancer.

The Jacks play their final two home games this upcoming week at College Creek Field. Cal State East Bay comes to town on Friday for a 12:30 p.m. match, and Stanislaus State will play in Humboldt on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
