Volleyball Returns to Lumberjack Arena Thursday, Friday

ARCATA, Calif. – Coming off a road trip that did not go as planned, the Humboldt State volleyball team has the opportunity to get back on track this week with a pair of home matches. The Lumberjacks (6-10, 4-8) welcome Cal State Dominguez Hills (6-13, 4-7) and Cal State Los Angeles (15-5, 7-4) to campus on Thursday and Friday, respectively. Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.

"We're not giving up," said Head Coach Kelly Wood. "We have four weeks left and we have two weeks in a row at home for the first time this year. We're looking forward to playing in front of our home fans and continuing to try to get things figured out."

Last season, the Jacks swept Cal State Dominguez Hills, only dropping one of the seven total sets, and split with Cal State Los Angeles with each team winning on the road. Humboldt enters Thursday's match looking to correct a five-game slide, the longest since the 2013 season.

While the Green and Gold have had to make adjustments on the fly this year due to injuries and players having to step into new positions to fill holes, the return to Lumberjack Arena could be the missing piece of the puzzle. The 2-2 record is a bit deceiving, with three of the four matches coming against the conference's elite. The schedule is now favorable for Humboldt, with six of the remaining eight matches at home.

"It's one at a time, and trying to get better each day," said Wood. "We still have that ultimate goal of getting to the conference tournament and that is still very much possible. We can still accomplish that, so that is something that we are still focused on."

The next two weeks will mark the longest that the Jacks have been in the same place since the season began. The homestand concludes with a Halloween night finale, before HSU hits the road for Southern California.
