ARCATA, Calif. – As the final weekend of the regular season arrives, Humboldt State volleyball still has an opportunity to play its way into the postseason. The Lumberjacks (9-13, 7-11) currently are on the outside looking in on one of the remaining two spots in the California Collegiate Athletic Association tournament.
"After a rough road trip, I am looking forward to getting an opportunity to sneak our way into the conference tournament with two home matches," said Head Coach
Kelly Wood. "We have played much better at home. We're happy to be home this weekend."
Both of this weekend's opponents, Chico State (16-11, 8-9) and Stanislaus State (14-9, 8-9), are tied for seventh in the conference standings with a game on Tuesday night and the pair of games at Humboldt State and first-place Sonoma State remaining.
The Jacks took these two teams to five games apiece on back-to-back nights in September. HSU defeated Stanislaus State, and then lost to Chico State the following night.
"We do still have something to play for," said Wood. "We went five sets with both these teams earlier in the year, so we know we can play with both of them. We also would really like to send our seniors out on a high note. Whatever happens after this weekend, I would like for our seniors to finish their final two matches at home with some victories and positive feelings before heading out on their next adventures."
Prior to Saturday night's match against Stanislaus State, seniors
Nicole Bewley,
Haley Biles,
Kaitlyn Dunaway, and
Heather Williams will be recognized for their contributions to the program.
Both Thursday and Saturday's matches are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Lumberjack Arena.
