STOCKTON, Calif. –
The streak is over. Humboldt State men's basketball earned a 92-87 overtime victory against Cal State San Bernardino and snapped a five-game postseason losing streak to the Coyotes Thursday in the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.

HSU improves to 22-7 overall mark and advances to face No. 1 Cal Poly Pomona Friday at 8:05 p.m. The Coyotes are eliminated from postseason competition and finish the season with 12-14 record.

"This is a big win for our program," said HSU Head Coach Steve Kinder. "The Coyotes have spoiled our past postseason runs, and with the win we got the chance to wipe the slate clean. Our players were excited to draw Cal State San Bernardino in the first round and have the chance to avenge our regular season losses. This team has made its own special mark in our program's history with this victory."

Allan Guei once again played the role of hero for the Lumberjacks as he sank a free throw in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime. The Compton, Calif., native finished with a team-high 21 points.

HSU scored the first five points of the overtime period, and Calvin Young II scored a team-best seven overtime points to lead the Jacks to victory.

The Lumberjacks came out of the gates slowly in the opening half and trailed by seven, 15-8, with 14:07 remaining. Cal State San Bernardino's leading scorer Jacob Thomas splashed a corner trey to give the Coyotes a seven-point advantage and largest lead of the period.

Malik Morgan, the CCAA's Freshman of the Year, was hit with a pair of early fouls and was forced to sit a majority of the final eight minutes before halftime.

Without Morgan on the court HSU leaned on Drew Cones. Cones sank a 3-pointer at the 7:49 mark which gave the Jacks a 27-25 advantage, their first lead since the opening seconds of the game.

HSU outscored Cal State San Bernardino 6-2 before the break and led by nine 41-32 at intermission.

Young did not receive conference recognition at Wednesday's awards banquet, but he demonstrated why he is one of the league's top performers against the Coyotes.  The Fresno, Calif., product nearly notched a double-double in the first half and grabbed eight rebounds along with seven points.

One of the keys to HSU's first-half success was its ability to dominate the rebounding battle. The Jacks outrebounded the Coyotes 26-13 and cashed in on 17 second-chance points.

Cal State San Bernardino outscored HSU 42-33 in the second half, but was not able to close out the North Coast team.

Trailing by five 74-69 with less than a minute left to play, Morgan and Guei converted back-to-back layups that cut the lead to one with 34 seconds on the clock. Guei drew a foul with eight to go and notched the free throw that forced overtime.

The Jacks shot 48.5 percent from the field and connected on 4-of-15 (26.7 percent) of their shots from long distance. HSU finished with a +21 rebound margin (49-28) and snatched 22 offensive boards.

Rakim Brown led the Green and Gold with 13 boards and Young pulled down 11. Austin Bryan (15), Young (14) and Morgan (14) all joined Guei with 10 or more points in the game. Morgan paced the team with eight assists and did not commit a turnover.

HSU faces Cal Poly Pomona for the second time in a week, after picking up a Senior Day win over the Broncos last Saturday.

"We look at this next game against Cal Poly Pomona as a plus," said Kinder. "We know that we can beat them and play with them. And after playing tonight's game, we are familiar with the court and playing on the stage of Stockton Arena."
