BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Humboldt State University women's soccer team lost a preseason exhibition match at Cal State Bakersfield, 4-0, on Friday night.
CSUB goals in the 12
th and 21
st minutes put the Jacks in an early hole. The HSU women settled in and did not allow another ball into the back of the net until a late turnover in the 84
th minute. The Roadrunners added a final goal in the 88
th minute as time was nearing expiration.
"The score is a bummer, but to come out with answers is what we wanted," said Head Coach
Paul Karver. "It was a good experience and great atmosphere. We learned a lot about who we are."
HSU was on the defensive throughout much of the match, being outshot 18-3. Senior goalkeeper
Megan Wade made seven saves in her 90 minutes in net. Junior
Samantha Morris recorded two of the Humboldt State shots, both in the first half. Freshman
Bridget Daley, who played the entire match, logged the other shot in the 86
th minute.
Nineteen total players made an appearance in the game for Karver.
"To give some of these young players a look right off the bat was what we wanted," said Karver. "Some girls took their opportunity and made an impression and will see significant minutes because of it."
The Green and Gold will have its true season opener on Sept. 3, against Seattle Pacific on the road.
