ARCATA, Calif. - Humboldt State women's soccer (3-2-0) enters CCAA competition with the conference's second longest win streak. Winners of their last three, the Lumberjacks are primed for a matchup with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State Los Angeles, the two teams at the bottom of the standings just over two weeks into the season.
The Lumberjacks finished the first part of its nonconference schedule with three consecutive wins, including back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since 2009. Goalkeeper
Caitlin Plese leads the California Collegiate Athletic Association with 27 total saves in her five matches, is tied for second with two shutouts, and is fourth in the conference in save percentage at .818.
"LA is going to be a very difficult trip to make, and we'll be ready," said Head Coach
Paul Karver. "The momentum couldn't have worked any better. When we made the schedule, we thought it could have gone one of two ways, and lucky for us the girls took care of business and it went the right way."
Cal State Dominguez Hills (1-3-0) has scored the second most goals in the CCAA, with 12, but has allowed a conference-worst two goals per game. Much of the +4 goal differential came courtesy of the Toros' 11-0 shutout victory over Sierra Nevada. HSU takes on Dominguez Hills on Friday afternoon at the StubHub Center, home of Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy.
The Jacks will then travel to the campus of Cal State Los Angeles (0-3-1) to play the winless Golden Eagles on Sunday. Los Angeles has had the opposite fortunes from Humboldt, losing three-straight after starting the season with a draw. The Jacks will look to keep the ball out of Plese's net, especially when playing a team that is at the bottom of the CCAA in goals scored with two.
"The dynamic of this group has really matured in the last seven days," added Karver. "They understand each other better, and they understand what it takes to win games at this level."
Both matches will have live stats which can be found on Humboldt State's athletics website. Friday's match will have a video stream available for purchase.
