Volleyball Concludes Road Slate Against San Francisco and Sonoma

ARCATA, Calif. – After dropping both matches of its last homestand, Humboldt State volleyball hits the road for the final time in the 2016 regular season when it takes on San Francisco State (Friday, Nov. 4) and Sonoma State (Saturday, Nov. 5).

HSU enters the weekend with a 10-12 overall record and a 5-9 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.

Last week the Lumberjacks dropped a four-set match to Cal State Dominguez Hills and wrapped up the weekend with a 3-1 loss to Cal State Los Angeles.

"It has been challenging to keep the girls motivated while on a losing streak," said head coach Kelly Wood. "The truth of the matter is we still have a chance at postseason, even if we need a little help. If we can turn things around and start playing well these last couple weekends, you never know what can happen."

San Francisco State enters the weekend with a 1-21 record overall, and the Gators are 0-14 in CCAA play. On Oct. 15, the Jacks claimed a straight-set home victory against the Gators.

"San Francisco State is a good and scrappy opponent," said Wood. "They play good defense. It's going to be their senior night, and they are going to be hungry for a win. We will have to be focused and cannot take them for granted."

Sonoma State comes into the match with an overall record of 12-9 and a CCAA mark of 10-4. In their previous matchup, the Seawolves claimed a 3-2 win against the Green and Gold on Oct. 14 at Lumberjack Arena

"Sonoma is another really tough opponent," said Wood. "Once again, we are going to have to be focused and play our game in order to get a road win."

HSU will conclude its regular season with a pair of CCAA matches at home next weekend. The Jacks host Cal State East Bay on Thursday, Nov. 10 before wrapping up the regular season with a Saturday, Nov. 12 match against Cal State Monterey Bay.
