ARCATA, Calif. – After seeing its 10-game regular season home winning streak snapped last week, Humboldt State men's basketball gets back to work with a weekend trip to Cal State Dominguez Hills. Tipoff for Saturday's game is 7:30 p.m.
The Lumberjacks had one of their best defensive outings in last week's win over Cal State East Bay, but a 13-point setback versus Cal State Monterey Bay ended their home winning streak.
Calvin Young II logged a season-high 30 minutes against the Otters, and he scored in double figures and shot 61.9 percent from the field last weekend.
Dominguez Hills took No. 20-ranked UC San Diego wire-to-wire before the break, and has rattled off a pair of wins since its trip to La Jolla, Calif. The Toros defeated Cal Poly Pomona 65-57 Thursday behind a 24-point scoring performance from leading scorer Vincent Golson. Golson is averaging 15.7 points per game and has scored 10 or more points in all but two games this season.
SERIES BREAKDOWN
Despite losing two of the last three meetings, HSU holds a 14-6 edge in the all-time series with Dominguez Hills. Five Jacks scored in double digits, including a combined 42 points from
Malik Morgan,
Tyras Rattler Jr. and
Nikhil Lizotte, in last season's 91-83 road loss.
COACHES CORNER
On Cal State Dominguez Hills
"They are an athletic team and very competitive. I think they are a team that could beat anybody in the league on any given night," said Head Coach
Steve Kinder. "It will be a challenge to go down there and play them in their place. They played a game Thursday night and should be tuned up and ready to go. Individually, they can go by you with the basketball so we will have to guard them extremely well. They are a team that can isolate you one-on-one and score over the top of you."
On what HSU needs to do to be successful against Dominguez Hills
"Hopefully we are back healthy," said Kinder. "We need to make sure our players are back on the roster that haven't played lately or are banged up."
