Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Ken McCanless

Women’s Soccer Battles Hard, Falls to Cougars

ARCATA, Calif.- Falling behind early and never able to recover with a goal of its own, the HSU women's soccer team fought valiantly but came out on the short end of a 1-0 score against Cal State San Marcos Sunday afternoon at College Creek Field.

The Jacks evened up San Marcos with 11 shots, nine in the second half, but could never quite push one across. It was San Marcos' Kayla Anderson off an assist from Meghan Randig at 5:27 of the first half that was ultimately the Jacks' undoing.

"It's always difficult to play against a team that plays with tactics like that and credit to them for getting the result," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "Our girls did a very good job of settling the game down after the first 15 minutes and played very well, but that unfortunately doesn't mean that we get the result. Now we need to prepare for a very important weekend against two very good teams from the south."

Alex Jenkins had four shots for the home team, three on goal, and Madison Barnett had two shots, both on goal. HSU goalkeeper Katelin Talbert registered four saves.

The result runs the Jacks to 6-7-1, 2-6-1 in the CCAA conference, in advance of their home dates with the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and the Cal State LA Golden Eagles at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
