ARCATA, Calif. – In a contentious game that saw Cal State Dominguez Hills break a scoreless tie late, HSU women's soccer fell to the visitors Friday afternoon at College Creek Field, 1-0.
It was a case of plenty of opportunities for the Jacks, but while they were able to take 16 shots, 12 in the first half, and put ten of those chances on goal, none of them found their way past the Toros' keeper, and HSU was undone by a Dominguez Hills score at the 85:54 mark.
"The girls played very well today but their goalkeeper was clearly the best player on the field," said Lumberjack Head Coach
Paul Karver. "We did a fantastic job of creating opportunities but we couldn't finish and that eventually caught up to us."
Sabine Postma had three shots for the Jacks, one on goal, while
Madison Barnett had two shots and put both on goal.
"This one hurts because we were clearly better today but that doesn't always mean you win," said Karver. "Soccer is a cruel game sometimes. You always want more for the girls when they put that effort forth but today was not our day."
HSU's result runs its record to 6-8-1 overall, 2-7-1 in conference, and they next face Cal State LA in a Sunday date with a 1 p.m. start.
