LA JOLLA, Calif. – In a game that saw HSU goalie
Katelin Talbert stop seven shots of Cal Poly Pomona's 17 attempts, the Lumberjacks took an early lead and never faltered down the stretch, winning the contest 1-0.
Alex Jenkins struck pay dirt for the Jacks at the 18:49 mark, with a header into the left side of the net that gave HSU a lead that it would not relinquish. It was one of Jenkins' four shots, all of which were on goal.
"Nobody will tell you that today was pretty, and if they do they are lying to you," said HSU Head Coach
Paul Karver. "Today was about a group of young women who felt the pressure and decided to excel as a team.
Alex Jenkins scored a fantastic goal early, from there the back line locked things down. When
Katelin Talbert plays like she did in goal today, we have the opportunity to do special things."
The win improves HSU to 6-4-1 overall, 2-3-1 in the CCAA, and gives them something to build on as they finish their road swing Sunday at 2 p.m. versus Cal State San Bernardino.
"Today was about every player on the roster, those that traveled and those that didn't believing in one another," said Karver. "The belief and support was special all the way around."
