Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.- The HSU women's soccer team was unable to finish off its Southern California swing with points on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0 on the road to Cal State San Bernardino Sunday afternoon after a 1-0 victory against Cal Poly Pomona on Friday.
Â
The home team got things started at 29:58 of the first half when Anna Pinedo scored on a penalty kick goal, the only tally for either team in the half.
Â
"The score was not indicative of the effort put forth," said Lumberjack Head Coach
Paul Karver. "We had a good opportunity to score and go up two in the first half but didn't finish and then the penalty against us for the first goal really changed things. The girls fought hard today, but the travel and fatigue from Friday really took its toll today." Â
Â
San Bernardino put its foot on the gas in the second half, as Sarah Bradley scored at 50:20 assisted by Pinedo, and at 66:44 Alexia Gonzalez scored assisted by Rachel Figg. Figg then scored at 73:41 with an assist from Heather Melgar. Finally, at 89:56, it was Haidee Duran assisted by Nicki Argentieri.
Â
"We went for it in the second half and that cost us as far as the score line goes but the reality is that we could have lost 1-0 and it's still 0 points on the table," said Karver. "We still come out of the weekend with three points and that's more than the majority of teams are able to do."
Â
HSU, 6-5-1 and 2-4-1 in conference, now gets a chance to rest up and prepare for more CCAA action as it hosts UC San Diego at 12:30 p.m. on Friday and Cal State San Marcos at 11:30 a.m.
