Women’s Soccer Captures Signature Win Versus Chico State

ARCATA, Calif. – Getting back on the winning side of the conference ledger, Humboldt State's women's soccer team captured its first victory and points against a Chico State team since 2012 with a 2-1 win on Friday afternoon at College Creek Field.

"Everybody that went into the game impacted it in a very positive way," said HSU Head Coach Paul Karver. "It felt like every time we made subs we were able to come at them in waves. The adjustments we were able to make at halftime really counteracted the adjustments they made, and the momentum we were able to get from that was huge. The second half from the girls was absolutely fantastic, and there was so much good football being played that we felt we had a good hold on the game for the entire second half."

The team's first goal came at 36:35 with what Karver described as a great throw from Sabine Postma and flick-on from Jacquelyn Dompier leading to Lindsay Stoner having the chance to slot one home in a cool, collected fashion.

Next for the home team was a tally at 67:28 of the second half, as Jensen Smith and Taylor McMillin assisted Alex Jenkins, who finished off a nice feed into the box with a header.

HSU keeper Katelin Talbert made six saves and kept the visitors off the scoreboard until the waning moments of the game. Lia Kilgore put one home for the Wildcats at 89:58 off an assist from Pooja Patel, knocking home a rebound of a shot off the crossbar.

Jenkins led the Jacks with three shots, two on goal, and one successful goal.

"As well as we played, the credit really needs to go to the defensive group in the midfield, the defensive back line and the goalkeeping" said Karver. "They were very, very good today at they made us look very good."

Karver said he thought a solid week of preparation for this game helped his girls immensely as they achieved their first conference win and ran their record to 5-3-1.

HSU has no time to celebrate, though, as it plays host to CCAA opponent Stanislaus State Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
