Women's Soccer Falls to Chico State in Double Overtime

CHICO, Calif. – The Humboldt State women's soccer team fought hard against undefeated Chico State Sunday afternoon but was unable to pull out the win despite pushing the game to two overtimes, falling to the Wildcats 1-0.

Goalkeeper Brooke Townsend kept the game close for the Jacks as she registered nine saves on 22 shots faced. HSU managed six shots in the first half, but Chico's defense held the Green and Gold to just one more for the remainder of the match. The Wildcats salvaged a win in the 104th minute as Abbie Jones snuck in late on a corner kick and headed the ball inside the far post.

"We played well in the first half and had a large part of the possession," said HSU Head Coach Paul Karver. "When the second half and overtime came it was a big physical challenge for us. At the end of the day, it was decided on a set piece, as most close games are, and we missed our chances leading to their winner."

The result moves the Lumberjacks to 4-9-1 overall and 2-8-0 in conference as they look to face UC Santa Cruz Saturday, Oct. 20 at 11 a.m. at College Creek Field.
