Dominguez Hills Defeats Women’s Soccer 2-0

CARSON, Calif. – Cal State Dominguez Hills scored a pair of goals in the first 30 minutes and held on for a 2-0 victory over the Humboldt State women's soccer team Sunday at Toro Stadium.

"This afternoon was frustrating, to say the least," said HSU Head Coach Paul Karver. "Dominguez did a very good job of sitting in and finding ways to not play the game. At the end of the day, we beat ourselves because of the mistakes we made that were not forced."

The Lumberjacks picked up their first conference win on Friday, but they weren't able to complete the road sweep. Dominguez Hills scored goals in the 19th and 27th minute to capture the win.

Bella Amezcua fed Jenn Garfias the ball in the box and she fired it into the bottom right corner to give the Toros a 1-0 advantage at the 19:01 mark. Dominguez Hills added its last goal eight minutes later (27:22) when Holly Kaemerle launched a ball from the left side of HSU keeper Nora Goodrie into the upper right corner.

HSU doubled Dominguez Hills' shot attempts, 6-3, in the second half but Toro goalie Ruth-Maria Soto completed the shutout.

"The team responded well in the second half but their goalkeeper, who is probably the best in the conference, was fantastic and wouldn't let us break the score open," added Karver.

Pikake Hix led the Green and Gold with three shots including one on goal.

The Jacks travel to face Cal State San Marcos on Friday, Sept. 28 at 12:30 p.m.
