ARCATA, Calif.--- The visiting Cal State East Bay Pioneers took a 2-0 lead after the first 50 minutes of this afternoon's match with Humboldt State win Arcata, Calif., and held off a late rally by the Lumberjacks for the 2-1 victory.
Pikake Hix scored HSU"s goal in the 82
nd minute and was one of five players to record a shot on goal attempt for HSU.

Paul Karver. "We did a good job controlling the game but we left a few details uncontrolled and it cost us. We have to be better at the details because that is what wins games at this level."
FIRST HALF: Cal State East Bay (3-5-3, 2-2-1 CCAA) had a chance for the early lead in the 18
th second of the match when
Katelin Talbert stopped Lauren McDougal's shot on goal attempt.
Kelsey Bess' chance of giving the hosts the 1-0 lead was stopped by the Pioneers' Jordan Smith. The Pioneers took the 1-9 lead in the 14
th minute when Jordan Lemieux scored on a ball from Lauren McDougal.
Kendal Spencer's shot attempt to tie the match at 1-1 in the 23
rd minute when wide of the net. The Lumberjacks had two more chances in the 33
rd minute, but Smith stopped both
Lindsay Stoner's and
Sabine Postma's shot on goal attempts. Talbert made another save in the final minutes of the half when she stopped Bri V'llente's shot on goal attempt. HSU had a final chance to tie the match when
Valerie Perez's shot sailed high in the 45
th minute.
SECOND HALF: Early in the second half, Postma had two chances to tie the match for HSU but both shots sailed high over the net. The Pioneers doubled their lead in the 50
th minute as McDougal scored her fifth goal of the season off a ball from Eliana Mendoza and Riley Spitzer. HSU had a chance to cut into the deficit when Postma's shot hit the crossbar in the 56
th minute. The hosts had another chance to score in the 79
th minute when
Rose Harman's shot was blocked by the Cal State East Bay defense. The hosts did cut the Pioneer lead in half in the 82
nd minute when
Pikake Hix scored her second goal of the season from about 20 yards out. Humboldt State (2-7-2, 1-5 CCAA) had one final chance to tie the match in the 89
th minute, but
Erin Siegel's shot went left of the net.
GOALIES; Katelin Talbert had seven saves in goal for HSU while Jordan Smith had five saves in goal for the Pioneers.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will host Cal State Monterey Bay this Sunday, October 20 at 11:30am. The Otters defeated San Francisco State 3-1 this afternoon in San Francisco.
