Lumberjacks Fall 3-2 In Final Minutes Of Second Overtime

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.---   The visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks had a heartbreaking loss this afternoon in their 3-2 double overtime loss to the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes.  Pikake Hix scored HSU's first goal in the 21st minute on a ball from Sabine Postma.  HSU's second goal came in the 36th minute on a penalty kick by Lindsay Stoner
 
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: "The girls showed a great deal of heart today and fought hard until the end," said head coach Paul Karver.  "We felt that Katelin Talbert's save in the overtime would be the difference but, in the end, it wasn't meant to be."
 
FIRST HALF:  Cal State San Bernardino took the early lead in the 20th minute as Kelly Kevershan connected on a ball from Danielle Landrum.  The Coyote didn't have the lead for long as Pikake Hix scored on a ball from Sabine Postma to tie the match at 1-1 in the 21st minute.  Lindsay Stoner had a chance to give HSU a 2-1 lead, but her shot went wide of the net in the 24th minute.  The Coyotes retook the lead in the 31st minute on a goal by Vidalia Abarca off a ball from Kevershan.  Once again, Humboldt State didn't let the Coyotes celebrate long as the Lumberjacks tied the match at 2-2 in the 36th minute on Stoner's penalty kick goal.
 
SECOND HALF AND OVERTIMES:  Pikake Hix's shot on goal attempt in the 52nd minute to give HSU a 3-2 lead was stopped by Carly Luna.  The Lumberjacks made a team save that stopped Kevershan's attempt to give the hosts the lead in the 53rd minute.  Maddie Johnson had a chance to for her first goal of the season, but Luna once again stopped the 'Jacks attempt to take the lead in the 55th minute.  Humboldt State (3-9-2, 2-7 CCAA) had another to take its first lead of the match, but Luna stopped Postma's attempt from being the hero for HSU. 
 
In the first overtime, Cal State San Bernardino (5-9-1, 3-6 CCAA) had the only shot attempt off the foot of Kaylah Wanna as the match went into the second overtime.  In the second ten minute overtime period, Talbert stopped Jessica Hernandez's penalty kick from give the Coyotes the 3-2 win in the 105th minute.  The Coyotes had another penalty kick and this time Abarca connected on the golden goal in the 107th minute to give the hosts the 3-2 victory.
