ARCATA, Calif.--- With less than a minute left in the first overtime,
Lindsay Stoner connected on a ball from
Pikake Hix to give Humboldt State the 1-0 victory over the visiting San Francisco State Gators.
Katelin Talbert recorded eight saves en route to the shutout for the victors.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: "The girls played hard today and created a number of opportunities," said head coach
Paul Karver. "It was fantastic to get the goal in overtime and have a reward for the quality we showed all day. SF State caused a number of different match-up issues and our girls did a fantastic job of solving the problems."
FIRST HALF: San Francisco State (2-12-1, 0-10 CCAA) had a chance for the early lead in the second minute, but
Katelin Talbert stopped Emily Kaleal's shot in the ninth minute. The Lumberjacks came right down the pitch after that and
Lindsay Stoner's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Haley Garriott in the 12
th minute. In the 17
th minute, Kaleal's shot was blocked by HSU's defense. Stoner had another chance to give the 'Jacks the lead when her shot sailed wide of the net in the 18
th minute. Just a minute later,
Rose Harman had a chance to give the hosts the lead but her shot also went wide of the net. With seven minutes left in the half,
Sabine Postma's shot on goal attempt hit the crossbar. In the 41
st minute, SF State had another chance for the lead when Matilda Casssel Ledin's shot sailed wide right to send the match into halftime scoreless.
SECOND HALF: Talbert made another save in the 47
th minute when she stopped Sydney Yuen's shot on goal attempt. One minute later, Humboldt State (4-9-2, 3-7 CCAA) had a chance to take the lead when
Kelsey Bess' shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Gators' Garriott. With just eight minutes left in regulation,
Valerie Perez had two chances to be the hero for HSU when her shot attempts went high or were blocked as the match went into overtime tied at 0-0.
OVERTIME: SF State had three attempts for the golden goal, but all three were stopped by Talbert in the first six minutes of the overtime. With 32 seconds left in the first ten-minute extra period, Stoner connected on a ball from
Pikake Hix for the golden goal as HSU took the 1-0 victory.
GOALIES: Katelin Talbert recorded eight saves in goal for HSU en route to the shutout victory. Hayley Garriott had one save in goal for SF State.
UP NEXT: HSU will host its final two games of the regular season next week. The Lumberjacks will face Cal State Dominguez Hills on Thursday, November 7 at 12:30pm. They will entertain Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday, November 9 at 2pm on Senior Day at College Creek Field.
