ARCATA, Calif..--- Humboldt State's men's basketball team will have their home opener this Wednesday November 13 when the Lumberjacks host the University of Antelope Valley Pioneers in a non-conference game at 7pm at Lumberjack Arena. After Wednesday's home opener, HSU will host Pacific Union this Saturday, November 16 at 7pm.
FIRST TWO GAMES: Humboldt State went 1-1 in its opening weekend in San Diego this past Friday and Saturday. The Lumberjacks lost 102-91 to Point Loma in both team's regular season opener last Friday The Sea Lions were 2018-19 NCAA Division II National Champion Runner-ups.
RaySean Scott Jr. paced HSU with his game high 33 points while
Leland Green chipped in 31 points.
Jackson Strong added 11 points for the Lumberjacks. HSU rebounded with an 89-81 win over Fresno Pacific on Saturday evening behind
Rob Lewis' double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. Four other players scored in double digits in Scott with 15 followed by
Amari Green added 13 points.
Leland Green chipped in 12 points and Strong added 11 points for the Lumberjacks.
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS; Humboldt State (1-1) is averaging 90.0 points per game while giving up 91.50 points per game. The Lumberjacks are being out-rebounded 45 to 36, but they are forcing 14.5 turnovers per game.
RaySean Scott Jr. leads HSU with his 24.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. He also has a team high five blocked shots.
Leland Green is shooting a team high 51.6% from the field and
Jackson Strong is shooting a team leading 50% from three's. Scott also leads HSU with his 83.5% shooting from the lie.
Leland Green has a team high 10 assists and is tied with
Amari Green each with three steals.
ANTELOPE VALLEY: The Pioneers come into Wednesday's game with HSU with a 4-1 record after defeating Vanguard 71-64 this past Saturday. Antelope Valley's only loss was. 73-65 loss at The Master's University. Two players are averaging double digits in scoring in Chris Johnson (11.2 points per game) and Kana Kell (10.4 points per game). Kamal Holden leads Antelope Valley with his 5.8 rebounds per game. Delvidas Mockaitis is shooting a team high 56.3% from the field while Chirs Johnson is shooting a team leading 42.9% from three's.
PACIFIC UNION: The Pioneers are 1-5 entering this week's games. Pacific Union will be at Menlo College on November 13 and at the University of Pacific on November 14 before facing the Lumberjacks. The Pioneer's only win was a 74-71 win at Holy Names. Marco Williams leads the way for the Pioneers with his 14.5 points per game average. He is one of five players to average double digits in scoring.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will begin its CCAA scheduled after its two home games this weekend. The Lumberjacks will host Sonoma State on November 21 at 7:30pm and Cal State Los Angeles on November 23 also at 7:30pm.
