ARCATA, Calif..--- Humboldt State Lumberjacks will continue its five-game home stand with a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games this weekend at Lumberjack Arena. HSU will host Sonoma State this Thursday and Cal State Los Angeles this Saturday as part of a CCAA doubleheader with the women's team. At half-time of the women's game on Thursday, HSU will honor former women's rowing coach Robin Meiggs in a ceremony. Then on Saturday, HSU will host Military Appreciation Night. Tip-off for both men's contests is scheduled for 7:30pm.
LUMBERJACKS' LAST TWO GAME: The Lumberjacks began their five-game home stand with a pair of victories last week. HSU defeated Antelope Valley this past Wednesday evening in its home opener by a 91-85 score. Four players scored in double digits for the 'Jacks in
RaySean Scott Jr. (25 points),
Jackson Strong (19 points),
Zachariah Christian (19 points) and
Leland Green (14 points). Scott grabbed team high nine rebounds while dished out a team leading five assists. Then on Saturday night, HSU defeated Pacific Union 86-80 behind a balanced scoring attack led by
Leland Green's 17 points.
Rob Lewis chipped in 14 points followed by
Amari Green with 12 points,
Jackson Strong with 11 points and
Isaiah Pope with 10 points.
LUMBERJACKS IN REVIEW: Humboldt State enters its Thursday contest with Sonoma State with a 3-1 record after winning its last three games since losing its opener 102-92 at Point Loma. The Lumberjacks are averaging 89.3 points per game while giving up 87 points per game. They are averaging 36.5 rebounds per game as are their opponents. HSU is shooting 48% from the field including 37% from three's. The Lumberjacks' opponents are shooting 47% from the field including 41% from three's. the 'Jacks have made 74.7% of their attempts from the line and have forced 14.5 turnovers per game including 6.5 steals per game.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK: Five players are averaging double digits in scoring paced by
RaySean Scott Jr.'s 24.3 points per game average.
Leland Green is next with his 18.5 points per game average followed by
Jackson Strong at 13.0 ppg,
Rob Lewis at 12.3 ppg and
Zachariah Christian at 10.7 ppg.
OTHER LUMBERJACK LEADERS: RaySean Scott Jr. also leads HSU with his 8.0 rebounding average and five blocked shots.
Leland Green has a team high 15 assists while Lewis has recorded a team high five steals. Strong leads the team with his 48% shooting from beyond the arc while Green is shooting a team high 87.5% from the line. Christian's 61.9% shooting leads HSU after its first four games of the season.
CONTINUATION OF A FIVE-GAME HOME STAND: Humboldt State will continue its five-game home stand this week hosting Sonoma State and Cal State Los Angeles. HSU will end its home stand on Saturday, November 30 at 5pm when the 'Jacks host Portland Bible College. The Lumberjacks are 14-3 at home since the beginning of the 2018-19 season.
SONOMA STATE IN REVIEW: The Seawolves enter their contest with HSU this Thursday with an 1-3 record after losing 82-78 to Angelo State and 81-69 to Alaska Anchorage in the Ron Logsdon Classic in Rohnert Park over the weekend. SSU is averaging 73.5 points per game while giving up 77.3 points per game. Sonoma State is out-rebounding its opponents 35.8 to 31.0 rebounds per game. Four players are averaging double digits in Isaac Donaldson (20.3 ppg), Nick Klarman (12.5 ppg), Michael Smith (10.7 ppg) and Kenny Olsen (10.5 ppg). Donaldson is also leading the Seawolves with his 10 assists and 53% shooting from three's. Olsen leads the Seawolves with his 5.5 rebounding average while Wesley Gilbert is shooting a team high 80% from the line. Humboldt State leads the all-time series with SSU 16-10, but Sonoma State has won four of the last four meetings. HSU split the series last year losing 69-66 in Rohnert Park and winning 78-76 in Arcata behind
Jackson Strong's 23 points.
CAL STATE LOS ANGELES IN REVIEW: Cal State Los Angeles enters its Thursday contest at Cal State East Bay with 3-1 overall record after defeating Azusa Pacific (90-82) and Fresno Pacific (86-83) in its last two games. The Golden Eagles are averaging 82.5 points per game while giving up 81 points per game. They are being out-rebounded 44.8 to 31.5. Four players are averaging double digits in scoring lead by Shacquile Dawkins' 18.0 points per game average. Fard Muhammed is second on the team at 15.5 ppg followed by Michael Wright at 14.0 ppg and Ja'Sean Lewis at 11.0 ppg. Lewis leads the Golden Eagles with his 9.7u rebounding average and 13 blocked shots. Khalil Williams is shooting a team high 55.6% from the field and 54.5% from three's while Michael-Isaiah Ajiboye leads the team with his 82.4% shooting from the line. Humboldt State leads the all-time series with CSULA 17-11 with the two teams splitting the last four meetings. Humboldt State won 84-76 in Arcata, but lost 64-55 in Los Angeles.
