ARCATA, Calif--- The trio of
Rob Lewis,
Jackson Strong and
Leland Green led the Humboldt State Lumberjacks to an 80-74 victory over the SF State Gators. Lewis and Strong each had season highs of 26 points and 22 points while Green chipped in 18 points for the victory.
FIRST HALF: A
Leland Green capped a 7-1 run by the Lumberjacks to begin the game. SF State (5-6, 2-3 CCAA) went on a 11-3 run in the next three minutes to cut the 'Jack lead to 12-10 on a three by Jase Wickliffe five minutes into the game. A three by
Jackson Strong off a pass from
Gabrys Sadaunykas increased the hosts' lead to 21-15. A Tyler Jackson lay-up capped a 13-2 run by the Gators as they took a 28-23 lead with just 5:18 to go in the half. Another trey by Strong this time on a pass from
Arash Poorsina gave HSU a 31-30 lead, but the Gators finished the half on a 4-1 run to take a 34-32 lead into the half.
SECOND HALF: The beginning of the second half went back and forth until two made free throws by
Leland Green gave HSU a 43-40 lead five minutes into the second half. A three by
Rob Lewis off a pass from
Isaiah Sampson increased the Lumberjacks' lead to 51-44. A three by
Jackson Strong off a pass from
Isaiah Pope increased the hosts' lead to 58-48 at the 9:41 mark of the half. Another trey by Strong this time off a pass from Lewis gave HSU a 60-54 lead. SF State did not go away as the guests cut the 'Jack lead to 69-62 on a jumper by Linton Acliese III. Back to back lay-ups by Lelaand Green and
Rob Lewis gave HSU a double-digit lead (73-62) with just 3:53 to go in regulation. A three by Zane Paddon capped a 6-0 run by the Gators as they cut the hosts' lead to 73-70 with 76 ticks left in the game. Humboldt State (6-4, 2-3 CCAA) went seven-for-eight from the line in the final minute as the hosts took the 80-74 CCAA victory.
THREE IN DOUBLE DIGITS: Three Lumberjacks scored in double-digits led by
Rob Lewis' season high 26 points.
Jackson Strong chipped in a season high 22 points while
Leland Green added 18 points. Lewis also had nine rebounds and dished out three assists and recorded a steal.
NUMBER 9: Jackson Strong is now ninth on HSU's all-time career list in three's with 127. He is ten from moving past Mark White into eighth place.
17 ASSISTS: Humboldt State dished out 17 assists this evening paced by
Zachariah Christian's five.
Rob Lewis and
Isaiah Pope each had three while
Arash Poorsina and
Leland Green each had two.
31-27: The Lumberjacks out-rebounded SF State 31-27 paced by the
Rob Lewis' nine rebounds.
Zachariah Christian grabbed six rebounds and
Leland Green and
Isaiah Sampson each had four.
21-25: Humboldt State went 21-for-25 from the line this evening led by
Leland Green's 10-for-12 performance.
Rob Lewis was seven-for-nine while
Arash Poorsina and
Isaiah Pope each went two-for-two.
UP NEXT: HSU will travel to Hayward this Saturday afternoon for a 3pm CCAA contest with Cal State Bay. The Pioneers defeated Cal State San Bernardino 70-69 this evening in Hayward.
