Story Links

PORTLAND, Ore.--- Playing in their third straight road match to begin the regular season, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks lost 3-1 to the Concordia Cavaliers at Tuominen Yard in Hilken Community Stadium on the campus of Concordia University in Portland, Ore.  The Cavaliers (1-2) used two second half goals to key their victory over the 'Jacks.

QUOTES FROM COACH KARVER:  "The evening had polarizing emotions," said Humboldt State head coach Paul Karver.  We were very good in the first half when we scored the goal it felt as if we were going to break through.  Credit to Concordia to coming out in the second half and changing the first 15 minutes.  Our fans were fantastic and we are looking forward to playing in front of everyone on Saturday afternoon."

FIRST HALF:  Concordia took a 1-0 lead on Kyra Radcliffe's first goal of the season off a ball from Isabelle Morales in the fourth minute of the match.  The 'Jacks had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 in the 22nd minute when Lindsay Stoner's shot sailed wide.  HSU tied the match in the 33rd minute on a goal by Mary Swisher off a ball from Sabine Postma.  The Cavaliers had a chance to take the lead, but Katelin Talbert made a save of Samantha Persad's shot in the 39th minute.  HSU had a chance to take the lead, but Postma's shot sailed wide in the 42nd minute to send the match into the half with a 1-1 tie.

SECOND HALF:  Humboldt State (0-2-1) looked like the 'Jacks were going to take the lead in the 60th minute when Hailey Asato stopped Stoner's shot on goal attempt.  Postma had a chance to give HSU the lead thirty second later but her shot was blocked by the Cavalier defense.  The Cavaliers took the 2-1 lead on a goal by Jaida Nyby in the 62nd minute.  They doubled their lead on Radcliffe's second goal of the match off a ball from Maggie Ames in the 67th minute.  HSU had two chances to cut into CU's lead, but Pikake Hix's and Postma's shot both sailed wide as CU took the 3-1 non-conference victory.

GOALIES:  Talbert had seven saves in goal for the 'Jack while Asato had two in goal for CU.

UP NEXT:  Humboldt State will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon at 4pm when the 'Jacks face Saint Martin's also in Portland, Ore., at Tuominen Yard in Hilken Community Stadium.
