HSU and Saint Martin’s Play To A Scoreless Double Overtime Tie

PORTLAND, Ore.--- Despite outshooting Saint Martin's 16-7 including 7-2 in shots on goal, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks played to a scoreless double overtime with the Saints this afternoon in Portland, Ore.  Lindsey Stoner and Sabine Postma each recorded five shot attempts while Postma had three shots on goal and Stoner two.  Katelin Talbert had two saves en route to the shutout in goal for the 'Jacks.

QUOTES FROM COACH PAUL KARVER:  "The girls played well again this afternoon, but if you don't' score goals you don't' win games," said Humboldt State head coach Paul Karver.  "We had our chances and credit to their goalkeeper for making some nice saves. We have to better and we will be better."

FIRST HALF:  Saint Martin's had chance for the early lead when Katelin Talbert stopped Shea McNight's shot on goal attempt in the 12th minute.  In the next seven minutes, Humboldt State had three shot goal attempts stopped by the Saints' Ali Campigotto with two coming off the foot of Lindsay Stoner.  Saint Martin's had a chance to take the 1-0 lead when Kierstein Madsen's shot went wide of the goal to send the match into the second half scoreless.

SECOND HALF:  Humboldt State had three chances in the first 12 minutes of the second to take the lead, the first off the foot of Pikake Hix which went wide and then the second off the foot of Poppy Cartledge which was blocked by the Saints' defense.  The final came in the 58th off the foot of Stoner that went high over the net.  In the final minutes of regulation, HSU had chance for the lead but Campigotto stopped Jaqueline Seidel's shot on goal attempt to send the match into overtime.

OVERTIME:  There was just one shot attempt in the first shot attempt in the first overtime when Jessica Moskowitz's shot went high over the net in the 93rd minute.  In the second overtime, SMU recorded the only shot attempt in the 110th minute when Shea McKnight's shot sailed high over the net to end the match in a scoreless tie.

MISCELLANEOUS:  Humboldt State held a 16-7 shot advantage including a 7-2 in shot on goal advantage.  The Lumberjacks also held a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks. 

HOME OPENER:  HSU will have its home opener on Saturday, Sept. 21 when the Lumberjacks host William Jessup at 3pm in their final non-conference match.
