SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. --- Academy of Art used two first half goals to defeat the visiting Humboldt State Lumberjacks 2-0 in both team's regular season opener of 2019. The Lumberjacks outshot Academy of Art 17-8 including 9-2 in the second half.
Lindsay Stoner led the way for the 'Jacks with her five shot attempts including two on goal.

Paul Karver. "We had a challenge in front of us after 90 seconds into the game and while the result doesn't show it, we responded well. The preseason is about learning and today we had the opportunity to learn, the important thing is to now grow from this and prepare for a very good Notre Dame de Namur team on Saturday."
FIRST HALF: Academy of Art (1-0) took an early 1-0 lead just 1:29 into the match when Anissa Wilson connected on a penalty kick. Four minutes later, the 'Jacks had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 when
Maddie Johnson's shot attempt was blocked by the Urban Knight defense. HSU had five more chances to tie the match including one in the ninth minute when
Pikake Hix's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Urban Knight's Lara Pflicke.
The Urban Knights doubled their lead on Wilson's second goal of the match off an assist from Alyssa Rasmussen in the 25
thminute.
In the 27
thminute, it looked like the 'Jacks were going to cut the deficit in half when
Kendal Spencer's shot was stopped by Pflicke.
Selena Osorio had a chance to score HSU's first goal but once again the Urban Knights' keeper made a save to keep the score 2-0 home team.
SECOND HALF: Humboldt State (0-1) controlled the second half which showed midway through the new stanza. Stoner had two shot attempts stopped by the Urban Knights' defense including one in the 67
thminute that Pflicke made one of her seven saves.
Mary Swisher had a chance to cut into the 'Jack deficit in the 77
thminute, when Pflicke made another save to keep the score 2-0. The "Jacks had one final chance to score in the 87
thminute when
Sabine Postma's shot on goal was blocked by Pflicke.
GOALIES: Lara Pflicke had seven saves in goal for Academy of Art while
Katelin Talbert had two.
LUMBERJACK ADVANTAGE: The Lumberjacks held a 17-8 advantage in shot attempts, 7-4 shot on goal advantage and a 5-1 corner kick advantage.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will return to the pitch in Belmont, Calif., this Saturday, September 7 for a 2pm match with Notre Dame de Namur. The Argonauts will face Cal State East Bay in Hayward later on this evening.
