Humboldt State to Travel Down South For a Pair of Games with CSUDH and CSULA

ARCATA, Calif..---   Humboldt State's men's basketball team will travel to the Los Angeles metropolitan area for a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) games against Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State L.A.  The Lumberjacks will face the Toros of Cal State Dominguez Hills this Thursday, January 16 for a 7:30pm scheduled CCAA contest in Carson.  They will travel to Los Angeles for a 3pm scheduled contest with Cal State L.A. on January 18.
 
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST GAME:  Humboldt State went 0-2 this past weekend to fall to 6-9 overall and 2-8 in the CCAA.  The Lumberjacks lost on a last second shot, 76-74, to Cal State San Marcos this past Thursday.  Four players scored in double digits paced by Leland Green's 18 points off the bench.  Isaiah Pope added 15 points while Jackson Strong chipped in 12 points and Zachariah Christian added 11 points for the 'Jacks.  Then on Saturday, HSU lost 86-70 to No. 6 UC San Diego despite Leland Green's 20 points while Isaiah Pope chipping in 15 points. 
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State is 6-9 overall and 2-8 in the CCAA entering this weekend.  The Lumberjacks are tied for 11th place with Cal State Monterey Bay and Sonoma State and just one game out of tenth place (San Francisco State) and two out of seventh place (Cal State L.A., Cal State Dominguez Hills, Cal State San Marcos). 
 
HSU is averaging 80.1 points per game while giving up 83.3 points per game.  The Lumberjacks are out-rebounding their opponents 33.9 to 33.1.  Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Leland Green (15.7 ppg), Rob Lewis (13.9 ppg) and Jackson Strong (13.4 ppg).  Zachariah Christian leads the team with his 5.5 rebounding average and 58.3% shooting from the field while Isaiah Sampson has blocked a team high eight shots.  Strong leads the 'Jacks with his 49 threes made and 41.4% shooting from three-point range.  Leland Green has a team high 47 assists and Isaiah Pope leads the team with his 15 steals.
 
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK:  In all but two of the Lumberjacks' first 15 games, Humboldt State has had at least three players score in double digits.  The only two games were December 5 at Cal Poly Pomona and January 11 versus No. 6 UC San Diego.  Heading into this weekend, four players are averaging double digits in scoring paced by Leland Green's 15.7 scoring average followed by Rob Lewis' 13.9 average and Jackson Strong's 13.4 ppg.  Zachariah Christian is averaging 9.9 points per game and Isaiah Pope has an 8.0 scoring average.
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Humboldt State's Jackson Strong has made 137 three-point field goals in his career as a Lumberjack.  He is currently eighth on HSU's all-time career list.  Strong moved up to ninth in the nation in NCAA Division II in free throw percentage.  He is also 34th in the nation three-point field goals made and 38th in three-point field goals made per game. 
 
17-6 IN THE LUMBERJACK ARENA: The Lumberjacks 17-6 in their own arena since the beginning of the 2018-19 season.  Humboldt State is 5-3 this season with an 86-73 loss to Sonoma State (Nov. 21), a 92-87 loss to Stanislaus State (Jan. 4) and an 86-70 loss to No. 6 UC San Diego (Jan. 11).
 
FREE THROWS:  As a team, the Lumberjacks have made 76.2% of their attempts from the charity stripe which places them 36th in the nation.  Including Strong's 91.5% shooting, the Lumberjacks have five players that have connected on at least 75% of their attempts from the line in Isaiah Pope (88.5%), Amari Green (81.5%), Leland Green (78.8%) and Isaiah Sampson (77.8%). Both Noah Viera and Deion Alston have made there only attempt from the line.
 
ASSIST/TURNOVER RATIO: As a team, Humboldt State has a +1.1 assist to turnover ratio heading into this week.  The Lumberjacks have five players that have dished out more assists than turning the ball over.  The six 'Jacks are Leland Green (47 assists, 27 turnovers), Jackson Strong (30 assists, 13 turnovers), Amari Green (24 assists, 18 turnovers), Gabrys Sadaunykas (13 assists, 10 turnovers) and Bryce Jackson.
 
UPDATE ON THE TOROS:  Cal State Dominguez Hills enters this weekend with an 8-8 overall record and a 4-6 CCAA record.  The Toros are tied for seventh place with Cal State L.A. and Cal State San Marcos, but have lost five of their last six games.  They are averaging 70.1 points per game while giving up 70.7 points per game while out-rebounding their opponents 36.3 to 31.1.  Three players are averaging double digits in Wonder Smith (13.4 ppg), Colten Kresl (11.4 ppg) and Alex Garcia (11.2 ppg).  Smith leads the Toros with his 59 assists, 28 steals, 6.1 rebounding average, 40% shooting from threes and 90.9% shooting from the line   Andrew Whitsett is shooting a team high 54.3% from the field and blocked a team high 21 shots.
 
Since 2007, Humboldt State leads the all-time series with the Toros 15-11.  The two teams split the series last year with HSU winning 68-67 in Arcata and CSUDH winning 82-61 in Carson. 
 
UPDATE ON THE GOLDEN EAGLES:  Cal State L.A. enters its game with Stanislaus State this Thursday with a 9-7 overall record and a 4-6 CCAA record.  The Golden Eagles are in a three-way tie for seventh place with Cal State Dominguez Hills and Cal State San Marcos.  They have lost their last three games in a row.
 
The Golden Eagles are averaging 75.1 points per game while giving up 74.4 points per game.  They are being out-rebounded 38.2 to 31.6.  Three players are averaging double digits in scoring in Shacquille Dawkins (14.5 ppg), Fard Muhammad (13.4 ppg) and Khalil Williams (11.9 ppg).  Ja'Sean Lewis leads the team with his 5.9 rebounding average, 54 assists, 31 steals and 31 blocked shots.  Michael-Isaiah Ajiboye leads the team with his 51.2% shooting from the field and 52% shooting from three-point range.  Muhammad has made a team leading 32 threes and 80.8% of his attempts from the line.
 
Since 2007, HSU leads the all-time series 18-11 including winning the first meeting 93-81 on November 23 in Arcata.  Jackson Strong and Rob Lewis paced the 'Jacks each with 21 points.
