Lumberjacks Return Home to Host Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino

ARCATA, Calif..---   The Humboldt State's men's basketball team be back in Lumberjack Arena for a pair of CCAA games this weekend.  The Lumberjacks will host Cal Poly Pomona this Thursday, February 6 at 7:30pm on Faculty/Appreciation Night.  Then on Saturday, February 8 at 7:30pm, HSU will host Cal State San Bernardino.  This will be Black Out Night as fans will be encouraged to wear black in appreciation of Black History Month.  Also, fans are encouraged by bring canned food goods for the Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Annual Canned Food Good Drive.
 
RECAP OF HSU'S LAST GAMES:  The Lumberjacks started last weekend losing 85-63 at No. 4 UC San Diego last Thursday.  Four 'Jacks scored in double digits paced by Amari Green's career high 15 points.  Leland Green and Rob Lewis each chipped in 12 points while Zachariah Christian scored 10 points.  Then on Saturday evening behind Jackson Strong's career high 34 points, HSU defeated Cal State San Marcos 91-85 in overtime.  Rob Lewis and Isaiah Pope each scored 13 points for the Lumberjacks while Amari Green scored 10 points. 
 
UPDATE ON THE LUMBERJACKS:  Humboldt State is 8-13 overall and 4-12 in the CCAA, which places them in 12th place, just one-half game out of 11th place and two out of 10th place.  The 'Jacks are .049 percentage points of eighth place.  They are averaging 79.7 points per game while giving up 83.6 points per game. 
 
Four players are averaging double digits in Leland Green (14.0 ppg), Rob Lewis (13.7 ppg), Jackson Strong (13.3 ppg) and Zachariah Christian (10.6 ppg).  Christian leads the team with his 6.0 rebounding average along with his 56.7% shooting from the field and 14 blocked shots.  Isaiah Pope and Amari Green each have a team leading 19 steals while Leland Green leads HSU with his 56 assists.  Strong leads the 'Jacks with his 66 three's, 42.6% shooting from three-point land and 85.1% shooting from the line. 
 
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK:  In all but two of the Lumberjacks' first 21 games, Humboldt State has had at least three players score in double digits.  The only two games were December 5 at Cal Poly Pomona and January 11 versus No. 6 UC San Diego.  Heading into this weekend, four players are averaging double digits in scoring paced by Leland Green's 14.0 scoring average followed by Rob Lewis at 13.7, Jackson Strong at 13.3 and Zachariah Christian at 10.6 ppg.  Isaiah Pope right behind Christian at 9.3 ppg.
 
MOVIN' ON UP:  Strong is 32nd in nation with his 66 three-point field goals made this season in 21 games.  Heading into this weekend's games, the senior guard is tied for ninth on Humboldt State's single season list in three's made in a season.  He is also 33rd in the nation with his 3.14 three's made per game while he is 58th with his 85.1% shooting from the charity stripe.
 
In the CCAA statistics report, Strong is second in three's made per game, third in free throw percentage and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (42.6%).  Strong's teammate, Rob Lewis, is tenth in the recent CCAA stats with his 46.2% shooting from the field.  Strong is also eighth in on HSU's all-time career list with 155 three-point field goals made.  He is ten away from moving past Austin Bryan into seventh place and thirteen from moving past Will Sheufelt into sixth place.  Ernie Spada holds the career mark in three's made with 202 during 2008-11.
 
ASSIST/TURNOVER RATIO: As a team, Humboldt State has a +1.1 assist to turnover ratio heading into this week.  The Lumberjacks have six players that have dished out more assists than turning the ball over.  The six 'Jacks are Leland Green (56 assists, 40 turnovers), Jackson Strong (46 assists, 23 turnovers), Amari Green (37 assists, 27 turnovers), Isaiah Pope (34 assists, 29 turnovers), Gabrys Sadaunykas (16 assists, 14 turnovers) and Bryce Jackson (four assists, one turnover).
 
80%:  Three players are shooting 80% of better from the charity stripe this season in Jackson Strong, Isaiah Pope and Amari Green.  Strong leads the way with his 85.1% followed by Pope at 84.8% and Green at 80.9%.
 
UPDATE ON THE BRONCS:  Cal Poly Pomona is 15-5 overall and 11-4 in the CCAA, which places them in fourth place in the CCAA.  The Broncos are averaging 75.9 points per game while giving up 62.9 points per game.  CPP is being out-rebounded by its opponents 33.9 to 31.5. 
 
Four players are averaging double digits in William Christmas (16.8 ppg), Riley Schaefer (13.9 ppg), BJ Standley (10.7 ppg) and Phoenix Shackleford (10.7 ppg).  Christmas also leads the team with his 6.2 rebounding average.  Justin Young has blocked a team leading 13 shots while Standley has dished out a team high 84 assists while Shackleford has a team high 44 steals.  Schaefer leads CPP with his 44% shooting from three-point range and 33 treys.
 
Since 2006, Cal Poly Pomona leads the all-time series 16-11 including the first meeting this season 96-64 in Pomona on Dec. 5.  Jackson Strong paced HSU with 21 points while Leland Green added 18 points.  William Christmas paced CPP with 24 points.
 
UPDATE ON THE COYOTES:  Cal State San Bernardino is 17-4 overall and 12-3 CCAA record.  The Coyotes are averaging 79.2 points per game while giving up 71.1 points per game.  They are out-rebounding their opponents 41.3 to 30.4. 
 
Four players are averaging double digits in Jeremy Smith (17.4 ppg), Daytone Jennings (14.2 ppg), Jordan Mitchell (12.0 ppg) and Andres Villas (10.7 ppg).  Smith leads the team with his 104 assists and 80.5% shooting from the line.  Jennings is averaging a team high 8.3 rebounding average to go with his 13 blocked shots.  Tyrell Henderson has recorded a team leading 25 steals while Andres Villa is shoohting a team leading 61% from the field.  Smith also leads CSUSB with his 44% shooting from three-point land and 39 treys.
 
Since 2006, CSUSB leads the all-time series 14-13.  HSU has won five of the last eight meetings including 53-49 on Feb. 16, 2019 in Arcata.
