ARCATA, Calif--- Humboldt State saw its winning streak snapped at six this afternoon, but the Lumberjacks extended their shutout streak to seven with their scoreless tie with the visiting Cal State San Marcos Cougars. The Lumberjacks (6-0-1, 0-0-1 CCAA) out-shot their visitors 21-5 including 8-2 in shot on goal attempts.
Adrian Gallardo recorded his sixth shutout in goal for the 'Jacks with his two saves on the day.
FIRST HALF: The hosts came out strong in the first minutes of the first half as they had two chances to take the lead. The first at the 1:31 mark when Nico Herrera-Land's shot sailed high over the net. Then eight seconds later, Jesus Mentado made his first of eight saves stopping
Devin Hauenstein's shot on goal attempt. The Lumberjacks had another chance for the lead in the 11
th minute when
Christian Gonzalez's shot sailed high over the crossbar. Cal State San Marcos (1-5-1, 0-0-1 CCAA) didn't record a shot attempt until the 28
th minute when Curtis Collazos' attempt sailed wide left of the net as the match went scoreless into the half.
SECOND HALF: Alex Jung had a chance to give the guests the 1-0 lead in the 54
th minute when
Adrian Gallardo recorded the first of his two saves on the day. Six minutes later,
Daniel Adeyeye's shot on goal attempt was topped by the Cougars' Mentado. At the 69
th minute,
Nico Herrera Land's shot was blocked by the CSUSM defense.
Marco Silveira had the chance for the match's first goal, but his shot went wide of the of the goal in the 76
th minute. Herrera Land had another chance for HSU's goal, but it was stopped in the 78
th minute by Mentado. With 12 minutes left in regulation, Riley Patterson's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Gallardo. With one minute left, Adeyeye had another chance for the game-winning goal but his shot was stopped by Mentado as the match went into overtime.
OVERTIME. There was just two shot attempts in the first overtime with the first coming from
Dylan Tovani but his shot attempt went high over the goal at the 99;41 mark. Right when the buzzer sounded, Silveira's shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Cougar keeper as the match went into the second overtime. In the final ten minutes of the match, there was just three shot attempts. The first came from CSUSM's Juan Salazar in the 104
th minute when it wide of the goal. One minute later,
Hawk Baxter's shot went wide left of the net. Then with three minutes left in the overtime, Herrera Land's shot attempt went wide left as the match ended in a scoreless tie
21-6: Humboldt State had a 21-6 shot advantage with five coming from
Nico Herrera Land and three each from
Dylan Tovani and
Daniel Adeyeye. All three of Adeyeye's attempts were on goal while
Yushi Kato,
Devin Hauenstein,
Marco Silveira,
Edgar Castaneda and Herrera Land each had one shot on goal attempt.
SEVEN STRAIGHT: Humboldt State extended its shutout streak to seven with six coming with
Adrian Gallardo in goal and the other with
Jacob Cotton in goal.
