ARCATA, Calif--- The No. 23 Sonoma State Seawolves (11-2, 6-1 CCAA) scored three unanswered first half goals to key their 4-0 win over the Humboldt State Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks recorded eight shot attempts including two on goal (one each by
Josie Wolitzky and
Claire Bareilles). The 'Jacks will host SF State this Sunday, October 24 at 11:30am in their final home match of the regular season. Prior to the match, HSU will recognize its three seniors in
Claire Bareilles,
Tana Eri and Clara Leinihan.
FIRST HALF: Sonoma State took a 1-0 lead in the 10
th iminute on unassisted goal by Julia Prtichard. The Lumberjacks had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 in the 12
th minute, when
Baylee Groom' shot sailed high over the net. The Seawolves looked like they were going to double their lead in the 24
th minute, but Lexi Zandonella-Arasa's shot was stopped by the Lumberjacks'
Alexis Aguilar. The visitors doubled their lead on another unassisted goal, this tiem by Zandonella-Arasa in the 25
th minute. HSU had another chance for a goal, but
Kendal Spencer's shot went wide left on the goal. The hosts had another chance to cut into the lead, but Claire Barielles's hot was stopped by Sonoma State's Phoebe Barnes in the 29
th minute. The Seawolves increased their lead to 3-0 late in the half on a goal by Krissy Keller heading into the half.
SECOND HALF: Humboldt State (3-7-4, 0-5-2 CCAA) had several chances early in the second half to cut into the Seawolf lead including two by
Kendal Spencer which both sailed wide right in the 49
th minute. The hosts had another chance for their first goal in the 67
th minute, but
Erin Mohr's shot sailed high over the net. Sonoma State looked like it had its fourth goal of the match, but
Marisol Camargo stopped Drew Swanson's shot in the 76
th minute. The 'Jacks looked like they had their first goal of the match, but Phoebe Barnes stopped
Josie Wolitzky's shot attempt. Sonoma State increased its lead to 4-0 on an own goal in the 85
th minute.
GOALIES; Phoebe Barnes had two saves in goal for Sonoma State.
Alexis Aguilar had one save in the first half for HSU while
Marisol Camargo had two saves in goal in the second half.
UP NEXT; Humboldt State will host SF State this Sunday, October 24 at 11:30am in its final home match of the regular season. The Gators tied 0-0 at Chico State earlier this evening.
