ARCATA, Calif--- In their final home match of the 2021 regular season, the Humboldt State Lumberjacks fell short losing 1-0 to the visiting SF State Gators 2-1.
Kendal Spencer scored the Lumberjacks' goal on a penalty kick in the 30
th minute. The Gators (7-6-2, 5-1-2 CCAA) scored two unanswered goal including Alexis Avelar's game-winner in the 76
th minute.

Grant Landy. "They understand that the ground work what they are laying this year will impact our program for years to come."
"The team really wanted it for them today, but we came up short," added Landy. "All we can do now is keep grinding. And we're are going to enjoy all the moments we have with these three seniors the next two weeks."
FIRST HALF: Humboldt State (3-8-4, 0-6-2 CCAA) had the match's first chance for the lead in the fourth minute when
Baylee Groom's shot was stopped by Marcella Sayler. SF State saw its chance for the lead be stopped when
Alexis Aguilar's stopped Glory Smith's shot on goal attempt in the 20
th minute. The match was scoreless until the Gators were called whistle for a yellow card in the box and
Kendal Spencer connected on the penalty kick in the 30
th minute. The 'Jacks had a chance to double their lead but
Maya Davis' shot on goal attempt was stopped by the Gator keeper to send the match into the half with the hosts leading 1-0.
SECOND HALF: The match stayed 1-0 'Jacks until the 49
th minute when Julia Hagedorn scored her second goal of the season to tie the match at 1-1. HSU had three chances to take the lead in the next four minutes but all shots sailed high including
Maya Davis' in the 51
st minute.
Kelsey Bess had a chance to give HSU back the lead but her shot sailed wide right. In the 66
th minute,
Erin Mohr looked like she was going to give the hosts the lead but Salyer recorded her third save of the day. Ten minutes later, SFSU took the lead on a goal by Alexa Avelar off a ball from Glory Smith. The Gators had two chances to double their lead but Aguilar stopped both in the 80
th minute as the match ended with SFSU on top 2-1.
