CHICO, Calif--- The nationally seventh ranked Chico State Wildcats (9-0, 5-0 CCAA) outscored the Humboldt State Lumberjacks 48-20 in the first half to key their 86-60 conference home victory at Art Acker Gymnasium this evening in Chico, Calif.
Bryce Mitchell paced the Lumberjacks with 16 points while
Amari Green chipped in 11 points and
AJ Sims added 10 points.
FIRST HALF: Chico State scored the first six points of the game in the first two minutes of the game. A
Jaden Edwards' jumper off a pass from
Cam Timmons put the 'Jacks on the board three minutes into the game. A Malik Duffy lay-up increased the Wildcats' lead to 11-2. An Edwards' lay-up off a pass from
Thomas Melonja capped an 8-2 run by the Lumberjacks as they cut their deficit to 13-10. Chico State followed that with a 15-0 run capped by Isaiah Brooks' two made free throws to give the hosts a 28-10 lead. A three by Evan Oliver increased the Wildcat lead to 48-20 heading into the locker room at the half.
SECOND HALF: Humboldt State (7-3, 1-3 CCAA) outscored Chico State 19-12 in the first eight minutes of the second half to cut into the deficit, 60-39. A three by Isaiah Brooks increased the Wildcat lead to 76-41 with eight minutes left in regulation. The closest HSU would get the rest of the way was 86-60, on an
Andrew Mork three off a pass from
Keshawn Hall which was the final score of this evening's CCAA contest in Chico.
20-10: The Lumberjacks' bench outscored Chico State's bench 20-10 with 10 points coming from
AJ Sims.
Alonzo Washington chipped in five points while
Andrew Mork added three points and Keshawn scored two points for the 'Jacks.
JUST MISSED HIS SEVENTH DOUBLE-DOUBLE: Jaden Edwards missed recording his seventh double-double of the season and fifth in a row this evening. He scored eight points and had a team high 11 rebounds. Edwards went four-for-nine from the field while dishing out an assist and recording a steal in 27 minutes.
UP NEXT: Humboldt State will end its three-game road trip this Monday, December 18
th in Rohnert Park, Calif., with a 7:30pm scheduled CCAA contest with Sonoma State. The Seawolves lost 76-55 to Stanislaus State in Turlock this evening. HSU will return home in the New Year, when the 'Jacks host Sonoma State at 3pm on Sunday, January 2 in Lumberjack Arena.
