ROHNERT PARK Calif--- Despite
Cam Timmons' career high of 22 points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals the Humboldt State Lumberjacks fell 66-56 in a road conference game to Sonoma State this evening in Rohnert Park, Calif.
Bryce Mitchell added nine points and three steals for the 'Jacks.
FIRST HALF: The first seven minutes went back and forth until an
Austin Harris jumper in the paint gave the Lumberjacks a 13-11 lead. Sonoma State (2-9, 2-3 CCAA) outscored the 'Jacks 13-4 in the next six minutes to take a 24-17 lead. A three by
AJ Sims of a pass from
Keshawn Hall cut the Seawolf lead to 24-20. The hosts finished the half on a 10-2 run capped by a Michael Smith jumper to take a 34-22 lead into the half.
SECOND HALF: Another Michael Smith jumper capped a 14-6 run by the Seawolves to open the second half as Sonoma State took a 48-28 lead in the first five minutes of the new stanza. HSU didn't go away as the 'Jacks cut the deficit to 52-42 with 7:04 to go in regulation. The hosts increased their lead to 13 (61-48) on two free throws by Jaylen Wells with just 3:13 on the clock. Once again, Humboldt State (7-4, 1-4 CCAA) came back this time cutting the SSU lead to 63-54 on a lay-up by
Cam Timmons with 85 seconds to go in the game. It was a little too late as the Seawolves finished the game going three-for-four from the charity stripe as they took the CCAA game, 66-56.
CAREER NIGHT: Like stated earlier, the Lumberjack lost despite a career night from
Cam Timmons. The red-shirt freshman scored a career high 22 points while tying his season high with eight rebounds. He also blocked two shots, recorded steals while going 10-for-14 from the field. Timmons went two-for-four from the line.
20-10: Once again, HSU's bench outscored its opponents bench this time 20-10.
AJ Sims and
Austin Harris each scored five points while
Andrew Mork chipped in four points.
Keshawn Hall and
Alonzo Washington each added three points for the Lumberjacks.
40-34 ADVANTAGE ON THE BOARDS: Humboldt State held a 40-34 advantage on the boards with
Cam Timmons leading the way with eight rebounds.
Jaden Edwards grabbed seven rebounds with
Alonzo Washington grabbing five and
Amari Green,
Thomas Melonja and
Andrew Mork each with three.
UP NEXT: HSU will return home in the New Year, when the 'Jacks host Sonoma State at 3pm on Sunday, January 2 in Lumberjack Arena.
