MONMOUTH, Ore.--- The Humboldt State University men's and women's track and field programs continued their road trip this afternoon at the WOU Tri-Meet on the campus of Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore. This was the Lumberjacks' third meet in the past three days for HSU.
"Today was a tough day for the Lumberjacks with the weather and the competition," said Humboldt State Head Coach
Sarah Ingram. "We had some of our athletes take the day off today with it being our third meet in three days, but we still had some PR's.
Julian Jensen in the 800-meter set a new personal best as well as
Terrence Allen in the javelin and
Carson Smith in the 1500-meter. We're continuing to make improvements on the technical side with our throwers and jumpers, and we're making progress. In the sprints, we are improving each day."
Jensen finished in third place with his time of 1:58.48 in the 800-meter run. Teammate,
Patrick Riley, ran a 2:04.94 to finish in seventh place for HSU. Allen finished in third place with his personal best throw of 47.18m (155-00) in the javelin. He also finished in third in the hammer throw with a throw of 43.77m (143-07) and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.88m (38-11.75).
Ben Lindsey had a throw of 47.38m (155-05) in the javelin to place second while in the discus, he placed fourth with a throw of 33.64m (110-04).
Also placing in the top five in the shot put were
Kegan Richards (second, 13.91m, 45-01) and
Travis Allen (fifth, 11.85m, 38-10.50). Richards and Allen along with
Henry Hagen placed in the top five in the discus with Allen leading the way with his throw of 39.04m (128-01), which placed him second. Finishing in third place with a throw of 43.21m (125-11) and Hagen had a fifth-place throw of 28.68m (94-01). In the jumps,
Jackson Miller had a first-place jump of 1.81m (5-11.25) in the high jump and finished in fourth in the long jump (6.11m, 20-00.50).
Savannah Henninger had a second-place throw of 10.11m (33-02) in the shot put and seventh in the hammer (37.52m, 123-01).
Christina Roberds finished in fourth place in the 100-meter dash (13.77) and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.99) while
Joy Hano ran a 16.72 to finish in seventh place in the hurdles.
HSU had three top eight finishers in the 200-meter dash in
Zoe Becker (sixth, 28.34),
Grace Kasberger
(seventh, 28.47) and
Valerie Heywood (eighth, 29.17).
Rosa Granados,
Andie Kolasinski,
Rose Melville and
Maddie McGarry finished in third place with a time of 4:34.92 in the 4x400 relay. Earlier in the day, McGarry ran a 5:00.45 to finish in seventh place in the 1500.
Over in men's track events,
Ryan Castro finished in first in the 100 (12.06) while
Shane Oliver ran a 1:03.92 in the 400-hurdles to place first.
Isaac Figueroa had a first-place time of 24.90 in the 200 and a second-place time of 55.07 in the 400. The duo of
Julian Jensen and
Patrick Riley finished in the top eight in the 800. Jensen in third (1:58.48) and Riley in seventh (2:04.94).
HSU finished had four of the top eight finishers in the 1500 in
Carson Smith (second, 4:05.89),
Michael Gengo (third, 4:06.57),
Jorge Velazquez (fourth, 4:07.22) and
Evan LeDesma (seventh, 4:20.70).
"The competition throughout the day was very lopsided with Division I Oregon State dominating on the women's side, and several heats and flights on the men's side with a very small number of competitors. We are looking forward to a day off, before we get back to practice on Monday," added Ingram.
The Lumberjacks will return to Monmouth, Ore., on Tuesday, March 23 to participate in the Western Oregon, Humboldt State, Pacific Tri-Meet on campus of Western Oregon University. For live results and video of some of the field events, go to
