TURLOCK, Calif. – The Cal Poly Humboldt men's track & field team capped off the 2025 CCAA Championships with a strong showing on Championship Saturday, finishing fifth overall out of nine teams. Freshman Michael Payan headlined the day by capturing the conference title in the pole vault.
Payan soared to the top of the podium with a mark of 4.95 meters (16 feet, 2.75 inches), securing the gold medal and earning the Jacks a critical 10 team points in the overall standings.
Also adding to Humboldt's team score was James Woolery in the men's 1500-meter run, clocking in at 3:53.54 to place sixth and contribute three points. In the men's 200 meters, Cristian Megas crossed the line in 21.64 seconds to also take sixth and earn three points.
In the field events, the Lumberjacks earned a combined five points in the discus. Joseph Gonzalez took seventh with a throw of 46.10 meters, while teammate Derek Ray followed closely in eighth at 45.71 meters.
Otis Kelly notched one more point for the Jacks in the men's 5000-meter run with his eighth-place time of 14:56.33. To wrap up the day, the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Joey Bowser, Harry Singh, Dominic Raffetto, and Dylan Ochoa ran a 3:21.81 to secure sixth place and three more team points.
The Jacks conclude the CCAA Championships with several standout performances and a promising outlook, highlighted by Payan's individual title and valuable depth across both track and field events.
