MONMOUTH, Ore.--- Freshman
Paul Domingue moved into ninth place on Humboldt State's all-time men's triple jump with his first-place jump of 45-9 (13.94m) at the WOU Tri-Meet this afternoon on the campus of Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Ore. Domingue's jump was two feet more than second place Jalon Fields of Western Oregon. Domingue captured the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.73.
"After a couple days off from competition, it felt like our athletes had their legs back today," said Humboldt State head track and field coach
Sarah Ingram. "We saw lots of improvements in our running times from our sprinters up through our distance runners today. Lots of season or lifetime personal bests. All of our 400m runners dropped their times from earlier in the trip, and a handful of middle- distance runners hit lifetime PR's as well. Freshmen Julian J set a new lifetime best of 2-3 seconds in the 800m."
Three other Lumberjacks also finished in first place in their respective events in Valeri Heywood,
Isaac Figueroa and
Aris Valerio. Heywood won the women's 400-meter with a time of 1:05.28 while Figueroa captured the men's 400-meter with a time of 53.56. In the men's 800-meter run, Valero had a first-place time of 1:55.02.
Julian Jensen and
Evan LeDesma joined Valerio all finishing in the top eight. Jensen had a third-place time of 1:56.37 with LeDesma running a 2:02.01 to finish in eighth place. Valerio joined
Julian Jensen,
Michael Gengo and
Patrick Riley to run a third-place time of 3:33.48 in the 4x400 men's relay. In the men's 1500-meter run, Ricardo Torres had a fifth-place time of 4:03.97.
Over in the women's 800-meter,
Lucy Atkinson finished in second (2:29.44) while
Serena Smith finished in third (2:30.78) and
Emily Bath was fourth (2:31.70). Atkinson, Smith and Bath joined
Rosa Granados to finish in second place in the 4x400 women's relay (4:29.49).
HSU had four of its runners finish in the top eight in the women's 5,000-meter run paced by Rosa Granado's second place time of 18:18.64. Finishing right behind her was
Rose Melville in third (18:36.3) followed by
Andie Kolasinski (fourth, 18:55.24) and
Maddie McGarry fifth, 18:56.25).
Carson Smith and
Carson Cohn finished one-two in the men's 5,000-meter run. Smith ran a first-place time of 15:18.93 followed by Cohn with his second-place time of 16:01.58.
The Lumberjacks had three of the top six placers in the 100-hurdles in
Violeta Gutierrez,
Christina Roberds and
Lilyahna Engebretsen. Gutierrez paced the 'Jacks with her third-place time of 16.72 followed by Roberds in fifth (16.87) and Engebretsen in sixth (17.57).
Zoe Becker led HSU with her second-place time 28.05 in the 200-meter dash. Finishing right behind was Heywood with her third-place time of 28.29. Joining Figueroa in the top three in the men's 400 was
Isaac Arthur (53.74) while Becker joined Heywood in the top three in the women's 400 with her time of 1:05.75.
"Our female hurdlers had some big technical breakthroughs today," added Ingram. "Both Violeta G and Lilyahna E improved their season best times significantly. Freshmen Paul D continues to impress, winning TJ and earning a spot on our all-time top 10 list. Paul also set a new lifetime best, winning 200m race. In the throws,
Terrence Allen continues to improve each meet and threw a new personal best in the javelin, while teammate Ben L hit a season best as well. Kegan R also performed well in the discus, just shy of his lifetime PR."
Besides Domingue's first place finish in the triple jump,
Jackson Miller finished in third with his jump of 12.69m (41-07.75). Miller also finished in fourth place in the long jump with a jump of 5.88m (19-3 ½).
Joy Hano had a jump of 4.95m (16-3) to finish in second place in the long jump.
Kegan Richards had two top-five finishes for HSU this afternoon with his second-place throw in the discus (41.78m, 137-01) and third-place throw in the shot put (13.55m, 44-5). Joining Richards with two top-five finishes in the throwing events was
Ben Lindsey. He finished in third in the javelin (48.21m, 158-02) and fifth in the discus (33.32m, 109-04). Joining Richards in the top six in the shot put was
Terrence Allen as he had a sixth-place throw of 12.11m (39-9.75). Allen finished in fourth in the javelin (47.54m, 155-11) and fifth in the hammer (33.52m, 107-11). In the pole vault,
Rory Bourdage tied for third with a vault of 3.05m (10-00).
Savannah Henninger finished in the top six in the shot put (fifth, 9.57m, 31-4.75) and in the hammer (sixth, 32.77m, 107-00). To check out the full results and video from some of the field events, go to

"As we hit the road back to Ashland for the last leg of our trip, I am reflecting on what an amazing experience this has been for our program," added Ingram. "The chance to train and compete on the road, and spend all this quality time together as a team, amidst this pandemic year. we all just feel so grateful to be here. We're thankful to Western Oregon and Southern Oregon for hosting and providing this opportunity for us, and we're incredibly grateful to our administration and staff, for allowing and supporting us throughout the whole process."
The Lumberjacks will return to the track for their final meet of the month this Thursday and Friday- March 25-26 at the SOU Meet #2 in Ashland, Ore., on the campus of Southern Oregon University. This meet will be the team's only heptathlon and decathlon of the season, and the Lumberjacks'
Grace Kasberger will compete in the heptathlon, while
Henry Hagen and
