ARCATA, Calif.--- Humboldt State University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be participating in Make-A-Wish's Workout for Wishes Program the week of April 26-30. All proceeds will benefit Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area and support their mission to grant wishes for kids like 17-year-old Keannu.
"When we got connected with Kelsey (Wetzstein) and Make a Wish to learn about the Workout for Wishes opportunity, I was ecstatic," said Humboldt State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee co-President
Macy Thomas. "These are my favorite kinds of workouts to do, I think there's something very powerful in doing a hard workout that has meaning and purpose behind it, because I know that the pain I just went through is temporary, and it's only a fraction of what Keannu has fought through. I really encourage everyone to give this work-out a try, donate if you can, and share Keannu's story."
Several members of the 11 Humboldt State Lumberjack intercollegiate teams and staff have individual goals and will host socially distant workouts via Zoom or YouTube. The Lumberjacks will be working out on behalf of Keannu, who had his athletic career cut short due to a brain tumor and subsequent stroke from surgery. HSU student-athletes challenge you to do a workout with your favorite Humboldt State Lumberjack team in his honor.
When he learned he would receive a wish, Keannu asked for his one dream to come true—to play football once again. Make-A-Wish and virtual reality company EmergeXR teamed up to create a football game experience that could bring Keannu back onto the field. He even threw a scoring pass as the crowd around him cheered! In that virtual game, Keannu was reminded that he is a hero in so many people's eyes.

The Division II Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, which is the primary student-based group that contributes to policy-making for the division, established the Make-A-Wish partnership in 2003 and has since become one of the foundation's largest and most consistent contributors.
NCAA Division II has raised more than $6.2 million toward granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Almost 740 wishes have been granted through NCAA Division II contributions.
On behalf of the Humboldt State Athletics and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, thank you for
joining this effort in support of Make-A-Wish.
