Humboldt State Plays to a 1-1 Tie with Chico State

ARCATA, Calif---  Clara Lenihan scored the game-tying goal for the Humboldt State Lumberjacks with less than three minutes left in regulation off a ball form Baylee Groom to key the 'Jacks playing to a 1-1 tie with the Chico State Wildcats (4-1-1). Alexis Aguilar had eight saves on the day for the 'Jacks.

QUOTES FROM THE COACH: "It was a good battle today," said head coach Grant Landy.  "Chico has some outstanding players and we had to weather the storm a couple of times to stay in the game.  Alexis (Aguilar) had an outstanding game in goal."

"We've been talking about mentality and work rate and those two things played heavily into us finding a way to get the equalizing goal. What a great ball by Baylee (Groom) and composed finish by Clara (Lenihan).  We start the conference next weekend so this was great test to get ready for both San Marcos and San Bernardino)."

FIRST HALF:  Chico State had the match's first chance to take the lead in the third minute when Alexis Aguilar made one of her six saves on the day on a shot by Camille Lidster.  Three minutes, Lidster had another chance to give the Wildcats the lead but her shot was stopped by Aguilar.  Emma McChristie had HSU's first chance for the first goal but her shot sailed wide left.  The score remained scoreless until the 44th minute when Sarah Emigh gave Chico State the 1-0 lead on a ball from Kylie Martinez.

SECOND HALF:  It looked like the guests were going to double the lead just five minutes into the second half, but Aguilar made another huge save.  Humboldt State (3-2-2) had a chance to tie the match at 1-1 in the 86th minute, but the Wildcats' Emma Hoffman stopped Baylee Groom's shot on goal attempt.  Just less than a minute later, Clara Lenihan tied the match at 1-1 on a ball from Baylee Groom to send the match into overtime.

OVERTIME:  There was just one-shot attempt in the 95th minute of the first overtime when Baylee Groom's shot on goal attempt was stopped by Emma Hoffman.  In the second overtime, Camille Lidster had a chance for the golden goal but her shot sailed wide left in the 103rd minute.  One minute later, Hoffamn stopped Brooke Weese's attempt for the game-winner as the match ended in a 1-1 tie.

EIGHT SAVES:  Alexis Aguilar recorded eight saves in goal for the 'Jacks.  For the season, she has a .875 saves percentage with a 0.55 goals against average.

LENIHAN/GROOM:  Clara Lenihan scored her second goal of the season while Baylee Groom had her second assist of the year.
