Jacks Clinch First Playoff Berth Since 2006 With Win Over Wildcats

ARCATA, Calif. -- On Thursday afternoon, the Lumberjacks remained unbeaten at home after defeating Chico State 1-0 and earned a spot in the CCAA playoffs for the first time since 2006. The lone goal of the match came from Megan Janikowski's first goal of the season in the 65th minute. She was assisted from Kylea Becker on a corner kick.

The Jacks outshot the Wildcats eight to five and had five shots on goal compared to Chico State's one. Humboldt also held an advantage in corner kicks with eight compared to Chico State's one. Emma McChristie led the team in shots with three, while Kelsey Bess led the team in shots on goal with two. Kylea Becker and Jysabella Tolentino also recorded shots in the contest.

Head Coach Grant Landy stated after the match, "I'm so proud of the players for their effort today and for the entire season. Today was a culmination of a lot of hard work, perseverance, and belief. We set out with a goal in mind at the beginning of conference to make the tournament, so this is a big achievement for us. To finish last in conference in 2021 to fifth this year shows a ton of progress and our commitment to a team mentality. I'm so happy for our players."

The Jacks earned a five seed in the CCAA tournament and will rematch number four seed Chico State on Sunday at 11:30 A.M. from University Soccer Stadium in Chico, California.

Head Coach Grant Landy hit a milestone, collecting his 400th career win as a head coach.

"I've had the pleasure of coaching some amazing young women in my career," Landy said. "To reach the 400 win milestone with this group means a lot to me because of all the work they have put in both on the field and for each other."

Humboldt finished the regular season off with a record of 7-4-6 (4-2-5 CCAA). Chico State rounded the year off with a record of 8-4-5 (5-3-3 CCAA).
