TEMPE, Ariz.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt Triathlon Team concluded its first official season of action on Saturday afternoon at the Women's Collegiate National Triathlon Championships, hosted by Arizona State University. The Jacks raced athletes in both the open and Division II Championship races.

For head triathlon coach Kinsey Laine, competing at the national championships was a culmination of the work her young squad has put in this season.

"I'm so impressed with this group," Laine said. "The progress they have made this season is incredible. Today, our first ever national championship, was a celebration of how we have come as a team."

In the Division II Championship Race and competing without top athlete Farrah Tyler due to injury, Elizabeth Odell led the way for the Lumberjacks. Her time of 1:26:35 over the 750 meter swim, 20 kilometer ride and 5 kilometer run was good enough for a 42nd place finish, as the Jacks finished 12th as a team in their first season of competition. 

In the open race, Lucy Atkinson and Mariska Kessler finished 30th and 31st with finishing times of 1:35:25 and 1:36:17. 

For Laine, the support her team has had from the university and athletic department was crucial in getting off the ground in their inaugural season.

"I want to thank Cooper Jones for coming out to support our athletes on this momentous day," Laine said. "His investment in the success of our program and the athletes meant so much to me."

Wingate University's Julia Kekkonen took the individual title in the Division II race with a total time of 1:06:54. On the team side, Lenoir-Rhyne University outpaced West Region champion Colorado Mesa by a score of 268-252 to take the team title.
