ARCATA, Calif. - The Cal Poly Humboldt women's triathlon team will launch its 2026 season Sunday, Sept. 6, at the Mount Shasta Tinman Triathlon in Lake Siskiyou Camp Resort.

The race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Collegiate teams will compete in a separate wave from the event's individual age-group participants.

Sunday's sprint-distance triathlon will feature a 750-yard swim in Lake Siskiyou, a 16.6-mile bike ride and a 5-kilometer run along the lake.

LAST TIME OUT

Humboldt concluded its 2025 season with a fifth-place finish among 11 Division II programs at the Women's Collegiate Triathlon National Championships in Tempe, Arizona. The result marked the Lumberjacks' second consecutive fifth-place national finish.

Averill Payne led Humboldt with a 14th-place Division II finish and a time of 1:09:31, earning Second Team All-American honors. The performance secured Payne's second consecutive All-America recognition.

Poppy Edge crossed the finish line in 1:10:55 to place 19th among Division II competitors and receive All-America Honorable Mention. Anna Hanstveit, Emma Hanstveit, Rylee Morris, Teagan Farrell and Eve Wendley completed Humboldt's national championship lineup as the Jacks totaled 492 points.

JACKS JUMP INTO 2026

Humboldt enters its fifth season under head coach Kinsey Mattison ranked fifth in the Division II portion of the College Triathlon Coaches Association preseason poll.

The Lumberjacks return seven athletes from last season's roster, led by All-Americans Payne and Edge. Senior Alexa Blakey provides additional experience alongside juniors Anna Hanstveit, Emma Hanstveit and Evelyn Higgins as well as sophomore Teagan Farrell.

Payne returns after leading Humboldt at the 2025 national championships, while Edge begins her junior campaign following the first All-America honor of her collegiate career.

Mattison's coaching staff also includes assistant coach Natalie Mitchell and volunteer assistant coach Elizabeth Odell.

FRESH FACES

Four newcomers join the Lumberjacks for the 2026 season.

Freshmen Phoebe Hickox and August Ricca will make their collegiate debuts, while junior Katelyn Touchet and sophomore Jayde Young begin their first seasons with Humboldt.

The four newcomers complete an 11-athlete roster that features one senior, seven juniors, two sophomores and two freshmen.

TINMAN TEST

The Mount Shasta Tinman will give Humboldt its first opportunity to compete as a complete team ahead of the collegiate championship portion of its schedule.

The race will begin with a swim from the Lake Siskiyou beach before transitioning to the cycling course surrounding the resort. The final portion of the event will take competitors along the lakeside running trail.
