Humboldt Concludes Road Trip With Victory Over East Bay to Remain Unbeaten in Conference

HAYWARD, Calif. -- The Cal Poly Humboldt men's basketball team faced off against CSU East Bay on Saturday afternoon from Pioneer Gymnasium. The Lumberjacks concluded their road trip with an 84-71 victory over the Pioneers and improved to 3-0 in CCAA play to remain atop the conference. Malek Davis led the team with 26 points in the contest.

MATCH SUMMARY
The first ten minutes of the game saw four lead changes and three tied scores. At the halfway mark of the first half, Humboldt and East Bay were tied at 19. After a Cam Timmons layup put the Jacks up 21-19, Humboldt didn't surrender their lead for the rest of the game.

In the first half the Jacks outshot East Bay, going 53.3 percent from the field and 61.5 percent from beyond-the-arc. This gave Humboldt a 42-35 advantage headed into the locker rooms at halftime. The Jacks kept the long ball going in the second half and after an Amari Green three-pointer at the 8:59 mark, Humboldt extended their lead to 12 points over East Bay. Although the Pioneers cut the lead down to six points, their late comeback attempt was unsuccessful. Humboldt finished the game on an 8-0 run and pulled away with an 84-71 victory to conclude the road trip.

POST GAME QUOTE
"We are excited to be 3-0 in CCAA play," stated Tae Norwood. "Tonight we carried over our defensive effort from CSU Dominguez Hills on Thursday and it showed. We got back well into conversion defense, won the rebound battle and won the turnover battle."

When asked about the offensive performance, especially from three-point range, Norwood said: "Our effort was there in both halves and we shot the ball great from beyond-the-arc. It was another balanced attack from our guys. It seems like each game we have a different player that steps up and elevates their game to help us win. I'm proud of how efficient we were with maintaining the lead and how we played on both sides of the ball, it allowed us the close out the game. When you shoot at a premium, share the ball, and defend well, we get the results we want. I feel like we are putting everything together at the right time."

When asked about starting the season with seven of eight games on the road and what it feels like to come back home unbeaten in conference, Norwood stated: "Every single non-conference game on the road helped us get ready for conference play in a highly competitive CCAA. I know we are excited to get back home, sleep in our own beds, and go up against rival Chico State inside of Lumberjack Arena on Thursday."
