HAYWARD, Calif.--- After going 3-1 last weekend in Carson, Calif., the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks (7-7, 3-3 CCAA) swept the afternoon by the Cal State East Bay Pioneers 10-5, 4-2 CCAA) 11-2 (5) and 5-1 in a conference doubleheader at Pioneer Field in Hayward, Calif.
Izzy Starr had two runs batted in for the 'Jacks in the opener while
Ava Hand struck out six in 3.1 innings pitched of relief.
JoAna Mullins went two-for-three for the 'Jacks in the night cap while driving in their only run of the game.
GAME ONE: Cal State East Bay took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Pioneers scored two runs on three hits capped by a two-out run scoring single by Annelise Garcia. The hosts broke the game open with a seven-run second inning to increase their lead to 9-0.
Humboldt scored its first run of the game in the top of the third inning.
Micaela Harris reached base on a two-out walk. She went to third on a single by
JoAna Mullins and scored on an
Izzy Starr single to center field.
The 'Jacks added another run in the fifth to cut the deficit to 9-2. Harris reached on a fielder's choice and stole her eleventh base of the season. The senior scored on a two-out single by Starr.
Cal State East Bay closed out the game on a two-out two-run home run by Madeline Ramirez to take the game in five innings, 11-2.
'JACK STARS: Ava Hand pitched 3.1 innings of relief, giving up four hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one.
Izzy Starr had two of the Lumberjacks' five hits while in both of their runs.
Micaela Harris scored twice and had her eleventh stolen base of the season.
GAME TWO: The night cap was a pitching between the Lumberjacks'
Gaige Garcia and Cal State East Bay's Anamaria Beard (6-1) until the Pioneer fourth.
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in their half of the fourth on a two-out run scoring single by Alexia Zumstein. Cal State East used a four-run fifth to increase its lead to 5-0. The Pioneers of two walks and two hit batters as they scored four runs on just one hit (a bases clearing triple by Annalise Garcia to take the 5-0 lead.
Humboldt cut the deficit to 5-1 in its half of the sixth.
Megan Escobar had a lead-off double, went to third on a ground out by
Micaela Harris. She scored on a runs scoring by
JoAna Mullins.
Beard retired the 'Jacks in order in the seventh as the hosts took the doubleheader sweep. The Pioneer pitcher gave up four hits and a run while striking out three for the victory.
