ARCATA, Calif--- The 16
th ranked Chico State Wildcats swept this afternoon's doubleheader from the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks 4-0 and 7-0 at Humboldt's Softball Field.
Karen Di Dio had five strikeouts in the opener. In the night cap,
Alyssa Ramirez had three of Humboldt's four hits. The two teams will finish off the series tomorrow with an 11am starting doubleheader.
GAME ONE: The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning. Nina Revoir had a one single and scored on a two-out double by Amanda Metzger. The Wildcats increased their lead to 3-0 on a two-run home run by Sara Mitrano.
Cal Poly Humboldt had a chance to cut into the Wildcat lead in the bottom of the sixth.
JoAna Mullins had a one-out single and stole second, but was stranded at second. Chico State (15-4, 7-2 CCAA) added an insurance run in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead. Brooke Larsen (10-1) recorded the win for the Wildcats.
JACK STARS: Karen Di Dio (4-3) suffered the loss for the Jacks. She struck out five and walked two while giving up four runs in 5.2 innings.
JoAna Mullins had one hit and a stolen base for Humboldt.
GAME TWO: Chico State took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Wildcats increased their lead to 3-0 on a solo home run by Reilani Peletti in the third inning. They added another run in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
Cal Poly Humboldt (7-11, 3-7 CCAA) had a chance to cut the Wildcat lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Alyssa Ramirez and
Megan Escobar had back to back one-out singles but were stranded at second and third.
Chico State added three more runs in the seventh to take a 7-0 lead. In the Lumberjack seventh,
Micaela Harris walked with one out and stole her 12
th base and went to third on a ground out by JoAnna Mulllins. Katleyn Oldwin (4-2) struck out the last Jack batter to preserve the complete shutout victory for the Wildcats.

UP NEXT: The two teams will finish off the four-game series on Saturday, March 5 at 11am with another doubleheader. Prior to the first pitch on Saturday, Humboldt will recognize its CCAA Hall of Famer in Lizzy Prescott who was inducted into the conference Hall of Fame during the pandemic.
