ARCATA, Calif.--- The Cal Poly Humboldt men's and women's track and field teams will continue their outdoor season this Saturday at the Lane CC Open in Eugene, Oregon. The Lane CC Open will take be hosted by Lane Community College at Titan Stadium and will commence at 10am.
RECAP OF LAST MEET: The Jacks are coming off a strong performance at the Kim Duyst Invitational in Turlock this Saturday. Humboldt student-athletes recorded twenty CCAA qualifying marks led by
Saedy Williamson's first place time of 17:46.70 in the 5000-meter run.
On the women's side at the Kim Duyst Invitational,
Grace Kasberger had two top eight finishes in the high jump in the 100-hurdles while
Joy Hano also had top eight finishes in the 100-hurdles and long jump. Kaela Frederick-Dennert joined Hano and Kasberger with two top-eight finishes, but in the hammer and in the high jump. The women's 4x400 relay team of
Valerie Heywood,
Emily Bath along with Kasberger and Hano finished third.
For the Lumberjack men,
Kegan Richards placed in the top eight in the discus and shot put.
Jared Del Real had a top eight finish in the shot put while
Shane Oliver finished eighth in the 400-hurdles. Distance runners
Julian Jensen,
Carson Smith and
Elliott Portillo all finished in the top eight in either the 1500-meter run or 5000-meter run.
AMONGST THE CCAA LEADERS: Even though it is early in the outdoor season, several Lumberjacks have recorded top eight marks or times in the CCAA. Here are the Jacks that have posted 16 top eight marks or times this season:
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: "After a successful weekend in Turlock the team is tired from our first long trip, but continuing to put in the work and train through these early season meets so we'll be ready to peak in May," added head coach
Sarah Ingram. "Distance runners will be taking this weekend off, and will rejoin the sprinters hurdlers jumpers and throwers the following week up at Oregon State. At Lane, we'll be competing with a mixture of JC, NAIA, and NCAA DI, DII, and DIII programs mostly from the Oregon and Washington area. We spent a lot of time in Oregon last spring, so we should be seeing some familiar faces this weekend."
THIS WEEK: Humboldt will be in Eugene, Oregon, this Saturday, March 12 competing in the LCC Open at the Titan Stadium. The open will begin at 10am with the field events and the running events will commence at noon. The day will conclude with the men's 4x400 relay at 5pm.
UP NEXT: After the Lace CC Open, the Jacks will return to the State of Oregon on Saturday, March 19 to participate in the OSU PNW hosted by Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. Humboldt will have its home invitational in two weeks on March 26 when they host the Humboldt Invitational at Redwood Bow
