ASHLAND, Ore.--- Both of the Cal Poly Humboldt Lumberjacks men's and women's track and field teams had fifteen top five placers in Day Two of the Raider invitational on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon.
Once again, the Lumberjacks had a strong showing in the men's and women's 800-meter run.
Aris Valerio paced the Jacks with his winning time and personal best time of 1:52.93 in the men's 800. Finishing behind him were
Julian Jensen (third, 1:56.52),
Dominic Raffetto (sixth, 1:57.78),
Sebastian Vaisset-Fauvel (seventh, 1:58.64),
Carson Smith (eighth, 1:59.56) and
Elliott Portillo (ninth, 2:01.01). the trio of Vaisset-Fauvel, Smith and Portillo all recorded personal best times this afternoon.
Emily Bath paced the Jacks in the women's 800 with her third-place time of 2:24.17 followed by
Rosa Granados in sixth place (2:25.94),
Sophie Smith (seventh, 2:29.26) and
Kayla Penny (tenth, 2:34.55).
In the women's 100-meter dash,
Joy Hano had a second-place time of 12.56 followed by
Valerie Heywood in fourth (12.92) and
Christina Roberds in eighth (13.25).
Ryan Castro finished in second in the men's 100 with a time of 10.98. Heywood had a personal best time of 26.70 to finish in fourth place in the women's 200 while she finished in fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:01.54.
The women's 4x100 relay team of
Christina Roberds,
Valerie Heywood,
Grace Kasberger and
Joy Hano finished in second with a time of 49.69. Vaisset-Fauvel, Jensen, Raffetto and Valerio finished in third in the men's 4x400 relay with a time of 3:32.71.
Kaela Dennert-Frederick finished in third and eighth place in the hammer throw and high jump this afternoon. She had a personal best throw of 144-03 (43.97m) to finish in third in the hammer. In the high jump, Dennert-Frederick finished in eighth with a jump of 4-6.75 (1.39m).
Besides her second-place finish in the 100, Hano finished in third place in the long jump (17-6.25, 5.34m) while Kasberger finished in seventh (15-9.75, 4.82m). Over in the men's long jump,
Travis Allen had a fourth-place jump of 21.11.75 (6.70m).
Jared Del Real captured the shot put with his throw of 48-6.75 (14.80m). His teammate,
Kegan Richards, finished in third place with a throw of 46-3.25 (14.10m).
Jonathan Sweeney placed fifth in the pole vault with his mark of 13-11.25 (4.25m).
Besides the Lumberjacks competing in the Raider Invitational, the following teams are competing in Ashland, Ore., in Oregon Tech University, Southern Oregon University, Corban University, Simpson University, Clackamas Community College, Southwest Oregon Community College, Umpqua Community College and the College of the Siskyous.
Humboldt will have its final competition of the regular season on Saturday, April 23, when the Jacks compete in the Chico Invitational on the campus of Chico State University in Chico, Calif. This will be their final invitational prior to the CCAA Championships, which are set for May 5-7, in San Francisco, Calif., on the campus of San Francisco State University.
