SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.--- Joy Hano became Cal Poly Humboldt's second conference champion this weekend in the 100-hurdles with her time of 14.58 to highlight the final day of the CCAA Championships for the Jacks. Hano joined multi-athlete,
Grace Kasberger, as the Jacks' two conference champions. Humboldt's men finished in fifth place while the Jack women finished in eighth place. Six Jacks earned All-CCAA honors by placing in the top three in their respective events in Hano (first, 100-hurdles), Kasberger (first, heptathlon),
Grant Van Emmerik (second, 400-meter),
Aris Valerio (second, 800-meter),
Jared Del Real (third, shot put) and
Travis Allen (third, decathlon).
Humboldt's
Travis Allen was named the CCAA Men's Track and Field Elite 13 Award recipient for having the highest cumulative grade point average in the 2022 CCAA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship field.
Hano is the first Jack hurdler to capture the CCAA Championship since 2015 when current assistant coach,
Kate Earle-Eilers, captured the 100-hurdles also at San Francisco State. She ran a first-place time of 14.58.
Grant Van Emmerik earned All-CCAA honors by placing second in the 400-meter with a time of 48.37. Cal State Los Angeles' Leon Tafirenyika won the 400-meters with a time of 47.80.
Jared Del Real earned All-CCAA honors in his last attempt in the shot put. Del Real had a third-place throw of 49.6.25 (15.09m) to earn six points for the Jacks. Alejandro Sandoval-Guzma of Cal Poly Pomona won the shot put with a throw of 52-07.50 (16.04m) and his teammate, Gerardo Flores finished in second with a throw of 49-06.50 (15.10m).
In the men's 800-meter run, the trio of
Aris Valerio,
Julian Jensen and
Dominic Raffetto all earned points for the Jacks. Valerio earned All-CCAA honors by placing second with a time of 1:53.25 just 0.07 tenths of a second behind champion Conor Wells of Chico State who ran a 1:53.18. Jensen finished in seventh (1:56.08) and Raffetto was eighth (1:59.36).
Kegan Richards recorded a fourth-place throw of 153-00 (47.40m) in the discus to earn five points for the Jacks. His throw of 153-00 is a personal best for the Humboldt thrower. In the high jump,
Kaela Dennert-Frederick earned a point for the Jacks with her eighth-place jump of 4-11.75 (1.52m), which tied her personal best jump of the season.
The Humboldt women's 4x100 relay team of
Christina Roberds,
Valerie Heywood,
Grace Kasberger and
Joy Hano earned three points for Humboldt with their sixth-place time of 49.62. Humboldt men's 4x100 relay team of
Ryan Castro,
Malachi Arthur,
Travis Allen and
Grant Van Emmerik earned four points for the Jacks with their season best time and fifth-place time of 42.81.
Jaxon Leduc had a personal best time of 9:47.16 in the 3000-steeplechase to earn three points for the Jacks and placed seventh.
After a strong showing in the preliminary round of the 1500-meter run yesterday,
Ricardo Torres ran a personal best time of 3:56.05 to finish in eighth place and earn a point for the Jacks.
Emily Bath earned two points for the Jacks with her seventh-place time of 2:21.87 in the 800-meter run.
Cal Poly Humboldt earned points in the women's and men's 5000-meter races.
Saedy Williamson ran a personal best time of 17:38.79 to finish in fifth place and gain four points for the Jacks in the women's 5,000-meter.
Carson Smith captured seventh place and two points for the Jacks in the men's 5,000-meter with a personal best time of 14:38.54.
Humboldt women's 4x400 relay team finished off the championships for the Jacks with a personal best time of 4:01.36 to finish in fifth place and earn four points for the Jacks.

Grace Kasberger made up the 4x400 relay team for Humboldt.
Cal Poly Pomona men's track and field team captured the men's championship with 277 points. The Jacks finished in fifth place with 48 points. This is the highest finish that Humboldt men's team has had since 2017 when the Jacks finished in fifth place. Cal Poly Pomona women's team also captured the women's championship with 223 points. Humboldt's women finished in eighth place just one point out of seventh place.
