ARCATA, Calif.--- Cal Poly Humboldt head men's basketball coach
Tae Norwood has announced the signing of the Lexington, Kentucky, native Shemar O'Roy-Ford to a National Letter of Intent. O'Roy-Ford joins Joshua Berenbaum, Malek Davis and Rylan O'Brien as the newest additions to the 2022-23 Lumberjacks.
"We are thrilled to welcome Shemar to Lumberjack Nation," said Norwood. "Shemar is a versatile post player who plays with great athleticism. He will add toughness and rebounding to our front court. He has a tremendous offensive upside and an unrelenting motor."
O'Roy-Ford comes to Cal Poly Humboldt from Frederick Douglass High School. He was a member of the boys' basketball team at Douglass the past four years. This season, the Honorable Mention All-Conference honoree was also named to the Honorable Mention All-Tournament Team. He averaged nearly 10.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting over 50% from the field.
"We believe the addition of Shemar will fit in nicely with the rest of our team," noted Norwood. "The Cal Poly Humboldt community will embrace his selflessness and servant attitude. It's our expectations that Shemar will have a successful 4-year career here in the North Coast."
The 6'9 forward/center received academic honors with his 3.5 grade point average. He is the son of Marie and Mo O'Roy of Lexington, Kentucky, and the brother of six siblings.
