ARCATA, Calif.---- Cal Poly Humboldt head men's basketball coach
Tae Norwood has announced the signing of two transfers from Division I institutions in Ian Krishnan and Marlon Ruffin. Krishnan is transferring to Humboldt from Central Connecticut State while Ruffin comes to Arcata from Portland State.

"We welcome the addition of Ian to the North Coast," said Norwood. "Ian is an unquestioned talent who is wired to score. Ian has a knack for scoring the basketball efficiently. Albeit, during his time at Division 1 Central Connecticut State he scored over 1000 points and connected on over 200+ shots from behind the arc."
Krishnan is a 6-2 guard who this past season became the 39
th player in Central Connecticut State University (CCSU) to score 1,000 points. He finished his junior season with 1,065 points which is 32
nd all-time at CCSU. The Gaithersburg, Maryland, native averaged 10.8 points per game this season while shooting 38.9% from three-point land in conference games. He is seventh on Blue Devil history with 205 three-point field goals made.
During his freshman season at CCSU, Krishnan was named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Rookie Team. The two-time NEC Rookie of the Week recipient earned NEC Prime Performer honors on November 12, 2018.
"Ian will provide veteran leadership and depth to our backcourt," added Norwood. "His high motor, toughness, and competitive spirit fits well in our preferred up-tempo style."
Krishnan graduated from Proctor Academy in New Hampshire. He was a Class AA All-NEPSAC and ranked as a top 60 player in the New England Prep Schools. The 2017-18 Most Outstanding Player was a Thomas Blackburn Invitational All-Tournament Team selection. Krishnan also attended Clarksburg High School and set a single-season and school-record for three-pointers made. The First Team All-Montgomery Section honoree was named to the Hoop Culture Capital Classic DMV Top 100 List.
Marlon Ruffin
Ruffin is a 6-5 guard who averaged 9.8 points and 3.2 rebounds per game this past season at Portland State. He led the Vikings in scoring in four games including recording 17 double-figure scoring games.
"We are excited to welcome Marlon to Lumberjack Nation," noted Norwood. "Marlon plays with an aggressive and attacking style on both ends of the court. His combination of size, experience, and versatility will allow us to utilize him at multiple positions."
Prior to Portland State, Ruffin played two seasons at the University of Omaha where he averaged 13.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game during the 2020-21 season. Ruffins was an All-Summit League honoree while averaging 15.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game in league games. He was the Summit League Sixth Man of the Year in 2019-20. He also played one season at Highland Community College where he averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while earning All-NJCAA Region IV and All-Conference honors.
"Marlon's IQ, relentless motor, and toughness fits well within the culture and philosophy of Lumberjack Basketball," said the Lumberjack head coach. "It's our hope that his
experience and efficient production continues as he dons the green and gold."
Ruffin was a three-year letter-winner at Sun Prairie High School in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. As a senior, Ruffin averaged 18.6 points per game and earned unanimous First Team All-State honors. The Big 8 Conference Player of the Year was the All-Area Player of the Year. The Sun Prairie High captured the conference, regional and sectional championships his senior season on the way to its first state tournament appearance in school history.
